Car description |
---|
This car was brought to Paco Motorsports last fall by the owner, who had kept the car in storage for a couple years. The car was already in good shape and ran well, but he wanted it to be inspected through front to back, inside and out, and refreshed and restored before letting go of it. We'll list all the details below, but this car is NOT a project for the next owner. It's a solid performing car that's had many hours of labor and thousands of dollars invested in the last 3 months. It's a very clean car that should be purchased by someone who wants to drive it and enjoy it, and continue on with the proper maintenance it requires and deserves.
The car is mostly stock, but has a few carefully chosen, properly executed aftermarket modifications for increased performance AND reliability in mind. They are:
TEIN Coilover Suspension16" Kosei K-1 16x8 wheels with nearly new Bridgestone RE-01R Tires, 225-50-16Complete set of Factory 16" Alloys Included with Kumho MX tiresStainless Braided Brake LinesHKS Dual Foam Element IntakeAftermarket downpipe - front cat removed, stock rear cat retained in mid-pipeRacing Beat Cat-back exhaustAir pump removedAftermarket steel coolant expansion tankAutoMeter Boost gauge mounted in steering consoleTurbo TimerAftermarket Stereo Head UnitEngine AND both turbos replaced by Mazda dealer at around 75k miles. Car does not smoke oil or coolant (except for a small puff of oil upon cold startup as is typical with these cars and the exhaust setup) Make no mistake, this engine is in good shape and has plenty of life remaining.
The following repairs/upgrades were done over the winter, completed in March, 2018:
Under the hood:
Intake manifold removed, ALL rubber vacuum lines replaced with silicone, and vacuum system simplifiedViton Check valves addedNew HKS Foam Filter elementsNew Spark PlugsOil and Filter ChangeCoolant flushed/changedRubber turbo plumbing couplers replaced with silicone pieces and new clampsCustom fabricated steel primary turbo inlet pipe replaced factory rubber pieceNew drive belts (A/C-PS and Alternator)New alternator idler tensioner bearingRepaired leaking turbo control actuator. Good working spare included with car.Car makes proper 10-8-10 boost pattern and pulls REALLY hard.
Interior/Exterior:
New Driver's Door Window SwitchPassenger interior door handle repaired, steel reinforced (common failure point, impossible part to find)Door panels removed and replaced to fix common rattlesNew hatchback glass window tintNew defrost dash vents replaced with Genuine Mazda NOS partsNew custom fit rubber floor matsComplete gear shifter rebuildNew stainless shift knob and leather bootAll interior plastic panels removed and cleaned of typical sticky rubberized surface (labor intensive!!)Instrument cluster pod repaired/restored (common breakage, very difficult to find, $500+ part)New fuel door kickerR1 Front spoiler sanded and repaintedCompletely detailed, inside and out, and waxed
Known issues: (Full disclosure on these items... Nothing to hide here, it's a great car overall, but we're honest folks!)
A couple very minor scratches on the drivers side. Not very deep at all, but a little too deep to buff out.MAYBE one or two very minor dings on the whole car. Otherwise the car is amazingly straight and the panels and paint are in great shape and the paint has tons of shine!Minor paint chipping from behind left rear wheelFuel gauge shows only 5/8 full on full tank. Probably a sender or ground issue.Oil Pan gasket seeps a very small amount of oil when parked. Probably a quarter sized drop overnight.Power Antenna extends, but does not fully retractA/C system was tested, will not hold a vacuum for more than about 15 seconds. Needs O-rings and should work fine, as A/C was working before it was stored.5th gear grinds slightly when engaged, common synchronizer issue (repair parts included!)
Car had a salvage title when purchased from Virginia, but that status was not transferred to current Kentucky title (KY title is standard, non-salvage). Full disclosure nonetheless... Car sustained left rear quarter, rear bumper, and hatch damage around 70k miles. Fully repaired properly and entire car resprayed. It's nearly impossible to tell that anything ever happened. Quality repair work for sure. The only indication is the hatch, which is from a touring model car, since the R1 never came with a rear wiper or rear glass defrost. Both exist, but the R1 electrical/controls were not equipped to make either option work. Retrofit is possible.
We have worked hard to make sure this is one of the finest examples of 3rd gen RX-7 still available today. We love these cars and will be sad to see it leave, but glad to see a new owner enjoy it for the awesome vehicle it is! We are not a dealer, just a small shop that takes great care in restoring and properly modifying Japanese cars, and the car's owner is a longtime friend and engineer who is very knowledgeableand took very good care of the car. Bid with confidence that you will be well satisfied with this beauty!
