Car description

It is with mixed emotions that I am selling this type R Miata. It is one of the two favorite cars that I have ever owned. I am selling because I have factory ordered a 2017 John Cooper Works Mini. My wife and I would like a car that has more luggage capacity because I want us to do some traveling. This car is in great shape and mechanically I would not hesitate to start driving cross country in it today.

It has two significant issues. One is the roof. I have repaired it several times and it does not leak, but my repair work is not pretty. Secondly, the red paint has some areas where the clear coat has deteriorated and does not look as good as the rest of the paint on the car. This problem is mainly near the hood area behind the right headlight. Photos of both issues are included.

I bought this car Dec. 16, 2005 on ebay motors. That owner had modified it with some rare JDM parts: CUSCO height adjustment suspension and a Safty21 5P roll bar.

I originally bought the car to autocross in the SCCA class STS2. I had J. R. Mills (one of Arkansas’s best Miata mechanics) upgrade it with the following improvements: Jackson Racing Cold Air Kit, Jackson Racing Ceramic headers, a high flow catalytic converter and muffler, and Kazera KZ-M 15 x 7 wheels. I installed a Jackson Racing Sway bar kit with Cobalt Links. I had the White racing stripe painted on by a high end street rod custom shop in Imboden, Arkansas. You either love it or hate it, but it does make the car very distinctive. I raced it several weekend a year for several years. Autocrossing involves only around 6 runs a weekend with each run lasting only 50-70 seconds. It is tough on brakes and tires but not that hard on cars.

I installed new tires August 2016: Kumho ECSTA PA31 205/50 R15

If you are interested in trying autocross, I also have a SPARCO EVO type racing seat and Simpson 5P seat belt that I will throw in for another $100. I also have a set of T’S competition type 15” racing rims with Falken Azenis racing tires (one has less remaining treads that the other 3) that I would include for another $250.
