Harry S. Truman Parade Car1947 Lincoln Continental Convertible Barn Find~Lincoln Company Demo~We purchased this with the intention of bringing it back to life. It was rumored to be President Truman's car for years then it came to auction. BOTH Cadillac and Lincoln gave Truman demos to try out and it has been widely known that he disliked the Cadillac brand. We researched files at the Truman museum and The Ford Museum --- this car with this VIN#. I Thought I had this sold a year ago. phone out of service email no good. Since then. the car has been in climate controlled storage from May 2014. so I need to sell it right now. The storage has exceeded the value of the car in my mind and I am done paying. I was planning on restoring the car. but circumstances have changed that plan. Here is what I know about this car; This car came from the estate of a decorated WWII pilot. He was a P51 pilot based in England who was fined for flying under the London Bridge. He was known as a colorful person in these parts. After he passed. I was out to preview his estate auction of cars & parts in Tulsa Feb 2014. a couple days before the auction. The auction consisted of a rather large estate. real estate. cars. parts and all kinds of stuff. This property had a mini storage type building. with approx. 20 separate garage spaces all filled with cars & parts. There was a man and his son standing next to me. I struck up a conversation with him and he said "Harry Truman's Parade Car Is In That Garage. I've seen it. " He pointed to one of the locked garage doors. It had been there the better part of 25 years. I had heard rumors of Truman's Lincoln parade car before - now it really piqued my interest. He always claimed to have the "Truman Parade Car. " I went home that night and dug into the research. All of the pics I found of a Truman Parade car were a light tan color. Then I got to see it. a couple of days later. it was black. I was disappointed. Then I saw the tan was peeking out from under the black paint. I found a black 1947 in Key West. Truman's winter home. but not this car. Most of the pics came from the Truman Library in Independence. He was seen in this car many times and used THIS car. While we have documented that he used it. this was never his personal car. I then contacted the Truman Museum in Independence. MO and they had the pics of a car in his 35th Regiment reunion in KC June. 1947 and lots of other pics where he used the car all over the place in the USA. Many I could not copy. The next step. I used the VIN to contact the Henry Ford Museum. Many of the records had been destroyed. but not of this car. It was"IN COMPANY SERVICE" A DEMO provided by Lincoln in Kansas City. April of 1947. Harry Truman's roots. From my research. Truman held onto the car for almost a year and used it all over the USA. All the research and folklore on the car points that this is the car. I determined that he kept this one because he expelled all of the Cadillacs at the White House. and ordered a fleet of new Lincoln Cosmopolitans. After retiring from "company service" this Lincoln lived at the Confederate Air Force museum in Harlingen. Texas. now located in Galveston. Home of some of the most desirable combat aircraft you will ever see. I really think I remember seeing this a small child. They riveted Confederate Air Force letters to the doors. When I had this thing advertised a year ago. one of the old volunteers from the Confederate Air Force called me to say he helped remove the V12 engine and install the Chevrolet 327 V8 in Truman's car around the mid 1960's It all ads up it because has a powerglide transmission in it nowIf you have any more information on this car. please give me a call. I have a few photographs with Truman riding in tan Lincoln all over USA. This is what I have found-researching this car and it was really cool. This car needs a total restoration. It's missing its transmission and engine. The floors are pretty good. some rust. pretty solid. the top parts. dash & instruments. door window frames. no seats---> what you see in the pictures all that I have. so consider the pictures as part of the description. Needs lots of parts and lots of love. What is pictured is what goes with the car. If you would like somebody to inspect this. do it before the auction ends. Sold as is. Sold on Bill of Sale.
