Every 1966 Lincoln Continental was designed to be a safer, more economical and enjoyable automobile. Protective items included front and rear seat belts, padded instrument panel and sun visors, deep-dish steering wheel, safety door latches, backup lights and much more. With safety features also came a new design. The front end styling include a new hood design and a new horizontal bar grille with parking and turn signal lights mounted in the bumper. The clean design carries over into the rear with taillights, back up lights and turn signals all incorporated in the rear bumper. Offered again was the 4-door sedan and convertible but now a 2-door hardtop coupe was added to the line up. Vinyl roof colors were available in black, white and ivy gold while Convertible top colors came in black, white or blue. A new, smoother Twin-range Turbo-drive Automatic transmission was available with 3-speed planetary gear set with a 6-poistion selector dial. A new 462 cu. in.
