The time has come to pass this beloved classic Rover on to another appreciative owner. This 1971 Land Rover Series IIA 88" Station Wagon is an excellent example of the final production year for the Series II. The Series IIA is regarded by many to be the epitome of the Rover Series for it's excellent design and dependability. as well as its legendary off road ruggedness. When you think of a Land Rover crossing an African plain at sunset. the Series II is what comes to mind for most of us. This particular Rover is a great example. It is mechanically sound. thoughtfully upgraded. and has been well maintained over the years. It has been a pleasure to own. and will be missed. There are some things about driving a Rover that can't be explained with words or pictures. I'll never forget all the familiar smells and sounds that made driving the Rover such an wonderful experience. This Rover has been garage kept by myself (and the car collector I bought it from several years ago) for at least 12 years. The previous owner had the rear axel and 4WD fully serviced before my purchase. and added most of the thoughtful upgrades to the Rover himself. These include an electronic ignition system for consistency and efficiency. a Weber carburetor for improved power and fuel delivery. brass Warn locking front hubs. the Kodiak brand heater unit. Bosch top mounted auxiliary lights. Bosch rear backup flood light. rear wiper with fluid reservoir. and plug-in battery trickle charging system. The Rover's motor is the original bulletproof straight four 2. 25 liter design. and has a brand new Interstate battery. It starts easily. nbsp;idles smoothly. and pulls well through all the gears with clean shifts through all gears. High. low. and neutral all work properly. Drum brakes all around get the job done. and tires have a great deal of tread left. as well as un untouched spare. The suspension is solid. and functions exactly as it should. nbsp;handling well on or off-road. Aesthetically. the Rover will not disappoint. The paint still shines beautifully and it's hard to believe it's survived so well over the years. There are very few small spots not captured in the images with paint chips. like the rear door hinge and just under the front grille. The interior is in good condition as well. The elephant hide seats have held up well. and do not have any tears. The floor mats are solid. and paint beneath in good condition. The headliner shows some signs of its age and has one small tear. and the trim above rear drivers side windows may need some attention in the future. Jump seats are in great shape. as are their cushions. and rear floor is protected and preserved with solid black vinyl mat. Overall. the straight frame. clean panels all around and clean glass and trim make for a very handsome Rover. The Marine Blue exterior paint. and Limestone top shine brightly in the sun. Bottom line. the Rover turns heads! This 1971 Series IIA is an excellent. almost entirely original example of an iconic Rover which runs and drives solidly. and should provide many years of service to its future owner. as well as great value as vintage rover prices continue to increase.
