Car description |
---|
We imported this very historic 1987 Land Rover Defender D110, VIN: SALLDHAC7BA300549 having served in the British Army as a Fitted For Radio (FFR) service vehicle. This is a nice example of an Ex-MOD Right Hand Drive (RHD) Defender D110. It's an original 2.5 diesel with a 5-speed transmission. Being an Ex-Military vehicle, it's very simple, robust and easy to maintain. The diesel engine is Land Rover's legendary 2.5 liter naturally aspirated, mechanically injected, super simple which offers bulletproof reliability. It's complete with a green canvas soft top and Safety Devices Roll Cage.
This vehicle still enjoys the military period correct single stage high gloss NATO Green, side storage compartments and hood mounted spare wheel. Complete with new twin front seats. The 2.5-diesel engine reads 87,545 kilometers on the odometer, which is equivalent to 54,398 miles. Military Land Rovers are maintained to the highest of standards with no expense spared to keep them running in the best shape possible during military service.
If you're Looking for a show pony or garage queen.... this D110 is not for you. This is one rugged D110. The bodywork has a few battle scars and dents to show, which only add to its overall character and charm.
We took two years to refresh this D110 and our main focal point for this old Land Rover has always been concentrated on the mechanics, structure and undercarriage, which for an old Land Rover will always be the most important and crucial aspects. We glass bead-blast down to bare metal to see what repairs were needed. Some common areas needed attention. The bulkhead was repaired and made stronger, the doors and footwells were replaced and the chassis has been repaired and made more rigid than it left the factory. Most surfaces that were not painted have been sprayed with bed liner for extra protection.
The interior cabin is a clean and simple. If you are looking for a vintage Land Rover that will be easy and simple to maintain, then this D110 is worth considering.
Land Rovers are known for their electrical issues and this one was no exception. We have rewired the entire vehicle with heavy duty Marine grade wiring so there are no electrical issues.

The vehicle is powered by a Land Rover 2.5 diesel engine, mated to a 5-speed LT77 manual gearbox, it may be slow but the original engine will serve you very well if speed is not a requirement, hence why the Military continued to use them for so long. It fires up readily with minimal smoke and will cruise at 55-60mph happily, even if it does take a while to get there. The gearbox and clutch work fine, selecting all five gears, and brakes work great.
Being an Ex-British Army spec Land Rover, it's very minimalistic and simple, just the way we like them so you can enjoy the driving experience of this 110 to the max. With a tough-as-nails look that's practically begging to chew up trails or roam the wild, this British-built Land Rover pickup/soft top looks just about right. Not too perfect that you'd be scared to drive it, it's ideal for heading out into the wilderness to get some work done or for traversing the concrete jungle. It would make a perfect beach cruiser, mountain crawler or a weekend warrior to turn heads or to drive around town. Head down to your local hardware store and see how many heads you turn, as there probably won't be another truck like it in the lot. Overall a very unique and cool Land Rover 110 that's ready to be enjoyed immediately. It's ready for a whole new life here in the US in civilian hands. This 110 will not be for everyone, but it will not disappoint either.

Why Buy a Military Land Rover?
The Military chassis are undercoated from new to prevent corrosion. Generally, they are much sturdier than their civilian counterparts, and have the added convenience of a removable gearbox cross-member, which makes repair and replacement of the gearbox a lot easier. 110 Defender models where fitted with the 2.5 diesel engines, with locking diffs and coil springs. They are also fitted with “bumperettes”, which are smaller bumpers, which sit above the main front bumper, and stick out from the rear crossmember which generally protect the front and rear lights. The suspension is of a sturdier construction with heavy-duty shock absorbers. Land Rover has a pedigree like no other and is used by military forces throughout the world.
We have over $45,000 in receipts on this two-year project!
