this is the nicest polite land rover santana 88 inch swb i have ever owned. and i have owned over 240 at least.i ship all over the world.for me..ORIGINAL IS EVERYTHING. if its not for you no problem. your choice. we all have choices.i buy only spoilt original. dents and all. and i drive them from spain to uk. over 2000 miles of slow noise.but in this case..i drove this towing another 88 inch santana on an A frame. pulled like a train. heheheheei even hit 60 mph downhill in france..this swb diesel is a late 1978, born 02-10-1978 and one owner all its life until a few months ago.an ESPECIAL MODEL. the civilian posh version.look at the alloy finisher on the lower edges.they normally fell off after a few years. but not this unit.tells me lots about the use off the vehicle. finding the alloy finishers still in tact. this one still has the dealers tag on front grill and rear window and mud flaps..41 years old mudflaps.this is also the only santana that the screen wash still works. little bits mean original.painted probably once or twice in its life. uva dries paint in hotter climates.88 inch wheel base you know. so allow me to tell you what you dont know.i am an engineer not a sales person so i talk nuts and bolts not shiny smiles.the spanish call it the later green block..the best 2250 diesel engine for series land rover.in fact they where military spec units from uk, 5 bearing engines and with santana drive gears instead of timing chain.santana lucas injection pump. 20% more power than uk models due to the huge hills in spain.decent brakes for a land rover.light easy steering..try saying that with a uk series land rover. steering lock nice too.unique water drains on hard top which work perfectly..like drains from the roof of an old church..the rear door has both hinges on the lower body.so with roof off...its only nuts and bolts to take roof off..the rear has a door still..front springs are new..within the last two years..rear are original and nice comfy worn feeling..sometimes replacements knock your fillings out driving.this unit has had expensive free wheeling hubs fitted from new. work fine..lighter steering..saves on tyre wear..drives better..this one has the big santana interior heater and demister works..windows all slide.engine is awesome original condition..needs nothing..good clutch and nice easy tight gearbox.now these land rovers are inspected twice a year by DMV in spain. this one november to may..then may to november..all old documents with sale including the current original clear title.miles of 45,000 odd is correct and in keeping. 60,000 km on speedo.
wheels and tyres i like to personally fit land rover defender modern wheels and tyres on my santana,s they drive much smoother..of course the original ones are available with decent tyres..buyers choice.but for road use..the defender wheel and tyre 7.50x16 is better.i have put photos of both for you to choose. for off road..go for original..land rover got it right first go.i know its a good driver after my epic trip from spain to uk..through france..towing another. 2000 miles of fun..took 4 days of 10 hours a day driving, having nice lunches..driving..sleeping and driving while sleeping from the noise still going through the brain..pulled well..only slowing for the biggest monster hills like you have in oregon.kept to 50-55 mph all the time really..all freeway stuff making it easier..with the larger defender type modern wheels and tyres 50 mph is easy comfy drivingon inspection on my ramp after returning..i did a big hit list of unhappy things.both footwells replacedmost outriggers replaced (these where original and thin) easier just to cut off and replace.fuel tank removed as it looked damp on seam..so new one ordered and will be fitted with all new fittings.propshaft uj,s replaced and swivels-oils-filters-axle and transmission oils all changed..anti freeze just changed to bluecol system.all interior is out for the welding and fabrication but will be put back this week for more photos.seats are nice original factory items.condition. like yourr favorite old boots.body is as photos or better..straight and tidy for an unmolested 41 year old. see the shiny alloy..paint corrosionblisters where evident so i took it back to metal and will repair before shipping..or leave it buyers choice.safari double skin roof..cool in day warm in winter..no condensation..vehicle has a full good factory headlining too..unusual so good condition.the glass cloth runners need replacing..we buy it by the metre and can do the job or supply the parts..again buyers choice..this land rover can also come as a convertible or pick up..buyers choice its only nuts and bolts..no seat belts...these do not require seat belts in spain..too old. 7 seats seat belts would cost 340 usd extra. we can fit them for only 90 usd. or just supply parts.
exhaust is very good..some rubbers will be replaced. has a towbar too of course. i can supply both electric trailer fittings too at cost. male and female 7 pin plug.rear wheel currently on door..can live inside too..can supplyy both sets of wheels tyres at cost.
chassis has been steam cleaned for inspection. repaired and a rubber coating applied all over. chassis-axles-suspension..looks good and keeps it tidy. rear cross member has been welded in the past. its strong and big tow bar bracket fitted. its not new but does not warrant changing..we can offer this service if required. we are set up for the big jobs..however would i change it now...nope.maybe 5 years down the line..

so same old pie..most in the same colour too..sandstone.i have the other santana in stock..not as nice on the body as this one..but a fantastic history that dreams are made from.. so the body creases do not matter..this is good all over but looks like it lost to mike tyson on its original body..the history is worth the asking price alone..purchased new by a very famous self employed cheese maker in spain..now 86 years young..started making cheese using a donkey to travel up the mountains to his caves..the air in the caves makes his cheese very unique..it cannot be produced anywhere else..the tried..the spores in the caves it seems..the tiny village are very proud and everything is painted..like crete..white..after ears of driving up and down the mountains..hitting everything in the way..transporting the cheese in back of land rover..we have extra seats if required for this unit.. the land rover was not in keeping with the nice village so the mayor made him tidy it and paint it..oh boy...stevie wonder helped with the bondo..ray charles painted it brightest blue ever..you could see it from the moon...so the mayor asked for it to be painted again..this time the cheese maker paid someone else to do it..cost 80 euros...80 dollars..parts and labour..and looks every dollar worth for sure.then the biggy///they did a check on the mountain road..seemed only 3 vehicles a year use it..this being one..so the council haverefused to fix the road and closed it..so the guy is back on the donkey...driving wise..proper thing..ready to use..good brakes steering matching modern tyres, easy starter..lots of power..tight transmission..exhaust leak and some bits dont work at present..sell as is or do all bits or restore..i can do a package of almost buy one get one free as i bought the history of this item and the land rover came cheap..
