The History:This legendary off road collectible has been part of some of the most famous combats in South African history and was widely used by the South African Defense Force (SADF) and converted into gunners, personal carriers, mine sweepers, and ambulances. Land Rovers were known for being the motor of choice for the 32 Battalion. It served 20 years in the SADF after which it was auctioned off to the general public in 1983.
This Land Rover in particular, was sent to South Africa in complete "knock down" condition from the United Kingdom and was THE first assembled in 1963 by the SADF, for the SADF. A badge behind the seat with the RA6301 is a tag used by the SADF for military logs. Evidence of the military history has been preserved with a "truth window" where you can still find the aging cosmetic components reflecting the era.
Rare Features:
The windshield was salvaged from an Land Rover ambulance that was used in the SADF. Historical note: The windshields on these ambulances would open vertical to create a draft while driving through the Bush on hot days to help keep the temperatures down for patients that were being transported in the back. Helicopter hooks can still be found on the front bumper. These were attachment points for the helicopters to drop these trucks for the troops in the South Africa Bush War.
