Car description

This is an auction for my rare. unique and essentially fully restored 1981 2-door Range Rover. Note that I added this as a 1980 with no VIN as for some reason Ebay doesn't recognize the VIN (but it is a valid VIN that is fully and legally registered in the state of California. and I have the California title in hand: SALLHABV2AA112973) This Rover was imported into the U. S. when new. from Belgium (LHD model) and federalized at the same time. The earliest records I have indicate it lived in Georgia from 1995. then was brought to Southern California sometime between then and 2006. After its restoration from 2006-2008. it received its BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) certification in 2008. The vehicle has a clear California title and registration. and passes smog with flying colors. The Rover also has the jack. a fullsize spare. toolkit. and manual (can't guarantee that the manual is original to this car. but the diagrams seem to depict a European market Rover so it seems like it could be original). Vehicle is always garaged. Note that most of the pictures don't show the Rover fully cleaned up. but I'll likely take it for a wash once the impending rain passes. I plan on getting the car fully detailed for the buyer. This Rover looks and drives beautifully and has so much character that I know I'll regret trying to sell it. but we'd like to downsize / simplify our lives and as such I'm putting this Rover up for sale. When I bought the vehicle (from Southern California). I jumped right in it and drove up the coast along Highway 1. quite possibly one of the best / funnest roadtrips I've taken. and in large part because of this Rover. Driving it never fails elicit a smile. It has been taken on one dirt road during my ownership (and a mild one at that) but never tested on rocks / etc. as I have another Rover for that. During the time I've owned it. this Rover has been a 3rd / 4th car. and so hasn't gotten the use it deserves. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the Rover or if you want any additional pictures. If you're interested in an inspection at your expense. I am happy to bring it to a nearby shop of your choice (I can recommend a good shop that I use for all of my Rovers in San Francisco). Also happy to work with shippers. as long as the buyer makes the appropriate arrangements. Deposit due within 3 days of winning. and payment via wire transfer or cashier's check. Below is a history / description of the key points / highlights / considerations that I can remember off the top of my head. From 2006-2008. the Rover went through an extensive restoration (at ~69. 00 miles) with West Coast Rovers in Irvine. CA. I have the receipts associated with the restoration. which encompassed. but was not limited to:Drivetrain / powertrain from a '95 Range Rover Classic (including the automatic transmission. viscous coupling. engine. oil/cooler lines. hoses. and associated internals)Exhaust system. catalytic converters. fuel tank. and necessary emmissions equipmentBrake master cylinder upgraded to a new larger versionStarter motor replaced with a stronger. more robust versionFull repaint in Arctic White. after body was completely strippedRe-done interior in black leather (seats are leather. some other parts such as the transmission tunnel are vinyl. black carpeting)New headlinerWood trim refinished (it's beautiful)Custom transmission tunnel for the automatic transmissionAir conditioning installed from the '95 (works very well)Refurbishment of numerous cosmetic itemsSince I acquired the vehicle several years ago. the vehicle has been driven less than 4. 00-5. 00 miles. and I have had the following work done. some as necessary items. but more so that this would be a "reliable" driver (as reliable as Range Rovers can be). This Rover has truly been a labor of love for me. with no expense spared:Upgraded engine (4. 6L) which lends ample but not prodigious power'95 Range Rover Classic 4. 2L ECUNew vacuum advance unitNew fuel pumpNew swivel ball seals. CV joints and front/rear wheel bearingsCupholder installed in center consoleUpgraded headlight bulbs (Hella); refreshed sidemarker lights (NOS from the U. K. )New decals front/rearNew brake padsOriginal headlight switch stalkFixed rear sliding windows so they work (new parts from the U. K. )Additional cosmetic refurbishment (including seals; various components; restored most instrumentation to full functionality incl. clock. voltage sensor. oil temp. sending units)New tires (215/85R16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs)New springs with mild 1" spacer liftNew bushings (dynamic I believe)Rear mudflapsBattery remote disconnect system (but there isn't a battery drain issue - I've left it parked for a couple of weeks and it starts right up with no issues)Future upgrades / items that I might consider doing (not now. but probably in a couple of years)Find a new seal for the passenger side wing window (works fine as it is anyways)Mark Adams Tornado ECU (have had good success with these on my other Range Rover Classics)Even when you fully fill the Rover up with gas. it doesn't read full - not sure why but never got around to it and it's never bugged meFind a matching early-style rear passenger lamp cluster lensPossibly a new. more period-correct headunit with an iPod jack (listening to the same CD gets pretty boring after a while)Features this Range Rover does not have. Or an iPod hookupEasy-to-use / intuitive HVAC systemRust!Level cornering / sport modeA good spot to keep your phoneNote that the OEM roof rack is not a part of the sale; however. if a buyer is interested in keeping it we may be able to work something out
