Car description

History: My great uncle purchased this Land Rover new in 1969 in State College PA. Uncle Jack was an Obstetrician in Indiana PA and needed something that could get him to the hospital in any weather - hence the Land Rover. This Land Rover was an inclement-weather vehicle. not a daily driver for the family. Although. nbsp;in the summer they removed the hard top. strapped on the soft top. and cruised around. The Land Rover failed to pass state inspection in 1988 and was left in his garage for years. Uncle Jack always intended to fix the frame but other projects always came up. My brother purchased it from our uncle years later with plans to reframe it and make it road worthy once again. but he. as my uncle. had too many other projects and never got to it. It sat in his garage for years. Last January. I acquired it with the goal to refurbish it as a winter project. My tenure with this Land Rover has been a blast. I tore it completely down and started the rebuild with a new galvanized frame from Rovers North. I have replaced the brake shoes. slave cylinders. flex lines. some hard lines. and the master cylinder. I replaced the clutch. pressure plate. slave cylinder. flex line. hard line. and master cylinder. I installed new tires. new door panels. new shocks. new side mirrors. new wipers. new door seals. a new gas tank. a new fuel pump. and I rebuilt the carb. I drained and replaced all fluids. I had the radiator and heater core pressure tested and painted. I spent hours sorting out the electrical system. Everything electrical now works as this is a Lucas electrical system (Prince of Darkness) and who knows if that will be a true statement tomorrow. I took the cowl to a body shop and had new door posts. toe boards. and side boards professionally welded in place. All replacement metal is made of galvanized steel. The interior is in surprisingly good shape. The original soft top and bows go with the sale. however the soft top has one small rip in it. Also included in the sale is the original jack. hand crank. both owners manuals (British and US). a repair manual. and a restoration manual. I have kept and will include all receipts of my work. It was lots and lots of money - just ask my wife. I have done nothing to the body or paint as I could not bring myself to alter the original patina it is just way too cool as it sits. After 26 years it now has a current Pa inspection sticker. This Land Rover is a hoot to drive. I love to drive it around town. nbsp;1st and 2nd gears are not syncroed so shifting is an adventure until you master double clutching. I now know where the inspiration for the song Shake Rattle and Roll came from. The heater works well enough to keep the frost from the windshield. It does not smoke and runs very well. I have had up to 60 MPH with no issues. It started right up when we had the very cold snap a few weeks ago. none of my MG B's ever did that. I get the respect nods from Jeep and Escalade owners alike. The Land Rover is sold where is/as is. with no warrantee. I will assist with loading but will not ship. I will accept cash in person or bank certified check only. I can send photos of the rebuild. If you have any questions please call 814 442 4834
