1961 Jeep Fleet Van, Classic Antique Mail Van / Commercial Van (FJ-3 / FJ-3A)
This is a 1961 Jeep Fleet Van, Classic Antique Mail Van / Commercial Van (FJ-3 / FJ-3A). It has a beautiful Patina finish. Build a rat rod, custom, or modify it to your liking. The vehicle was originally from Albuquerque used in the 1960-1970’s as a Piano delivery and repair van.
The paint is in fair condition with scratches, chips and dents and waves. The drivers sliding door shuts and latches and the rear door latches. The exterior roof is sheet metal and in good condition and the interior headliner appears to be oak and is in good condition as well. As seen all the glass was broken out years ago while in storage, however all the glass is flat glass and easily replaced. The floor of the vehicle is a thick steel used to move heavy equipment during its time of use and has no rust holes. The engine compartment is pictured and the engine and tranny are not with the vehicle and not included. Transplant your own motor using your creativity. 4 Newer 70's series tires have just been mounted. The front wheels are stock steel. The rear wheels are custom steel wheels. The vehicle rolls very easily and can be transported with no problems.
The vehicle is overall is in great condition considering being stored outside for over 50 years in a dry climate, where vehicles do not rust out. Yes it had surface rust in many areas, however there are no huge rust pockets.
If you are looking for very unique classic antique car then this is one you will not want to miss. This 1961 Jeep is a great driver and has been stored in a dry climate in Albuquerque NM. Again, do not let the opportunity to own this unique Truck-Van pass you by. The Reserve has been reasonably priced for a car of this scarcity. Thank you for your interest.
If you look closely at this car, you will buy it. Everywhere this vehicle has been displayed or transported, it gets thumbs up all the time. It will be a show stopper. Included in the pictures is a restored white flamed Jeep Van from the web that we were going to use as a model for paint the vehicle. However to many projects, so this one can be yours. Don’t miss out, this great vehicle will be sold. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87123. The vehicle comes with a bill of sale and NO TITLE. These vehicles were built and used from 1961-1965. This vehicle’s year falls within these years. Obviously the vehicle needs work and restoration, but has great potential. Feel free to call me and talk with me about this vehicle any time you would like.
HISTORY:
Willys Motors introduced the two-wheel drive Fleetvan was designed for light commercial applications, such as multi-stop delivery of mail and ice cream trucks. Practice has been the watchword for the FJ platform. The Fleetvan was built on a DJ-3A Dispatcher strengthened and maintained the same rough "Jeep" wheelbase of 81 inches and F-134 F-head Hurricane engine platform. The FJ-Series has been effective, robust and maneuverable.
This step van has doors that were easy to grasp each side sliding. The maximum use of glass windshield allowed vision "in all respects" to the driver through the cab over engine design. The first version was a U.S. right-hand-drive model Post Office that allowed the driver to operate the vehicle standing for easy operation.
The slightly FJ-3A featured a fake along with a total length of 154 inches (135 inches vs. for the FJ-3). In 1965, a new version FJ-6 was built on the platform CJ-6. In 1975, postal service vans FJ-series 3/4-ton and 8-9-FJ Series built by AM General FJ-6 replaced.
