Car description

LOWERED PRICE! Up for auction is this interesting 1961 Jeep CJ that I was told started it's life as a U.S. Mail delivery truck, then retired at some point, bought by the local school district and used as a plow vehicle on the parking lot for several years until it was bought by a friend of mine who used it for a couple of years and then put it in the back of his building until I bought it about three years ago. It ran when I bought it but the carb was bad from sitting, so I put on a new carb. I installed new distributor cap, wires, and rotor. The inside of the gas tank was full of old gas, so I removed it and had it cleaned and sealed. The fuel pump was not putting out enough gas so I put an electric fuel pump in line, ran the wires and fuel line up to the engine compartment and never got the switch wired or put on the dash or the fuel line hooked up. That was a year ago. My good intentions did not get the job done. I filled the master cylinder and the brakes pumped up. The motor turns over nice, I always had a charged battery in the jeep so I could turn it over periodically but never finished the fuel pump hookup to make it run. All of the dash is complete, 4wd shifter and gear shifter seem to work as they should. Clutch also seems to work fine. Original upholstery on the seats is intact but the seams have let go in a few places. The front floors had been patched before I got it and I had planned on just patching any of the the rusted areas inside or outside the body and using it around the house for plowing. The tailgate probably has the most rus, on the bottom edge. What I can see of the frame looks good, the rear springs are rusty from sitting. The jeep has a decent six foot two way plow (up & down hydraulic, by hand side to side). The two door glass panes have cracks but are in place and still go up and down manually. The rest of the glass is intact. The hard top does unbolt if you didn't want it on. Tires are shot but three hold air, the 4th for a while. The finish is rough all over but paint is mostly intact. It sat under a walnut tree this fall so it looks dirtier than it really is. As I said in the description above this could be restored, patched and used as is, or would make a good donor vehicle for a 4x4 project as the mechanicals seem good. Please understand that no matter what route you go this vehicle will need work to run again. I know I won't get back to it even tho I would like to. Look the pictures over, they give a pretty good idea of it's present condition. Thanks for looking and please don't hesitate to call Tom at 1-815-238-3516 if you have any other questions I haven't covered, I don't want any disappointment with your purchase. I am offering local pickup only and will help any way I can with loading the jeep. A $200.00 deposit thru PayPal is due within 48 hours of auction end and the balance in cash on pickup of the jeep.
