The very first CJ prototype was introduced in 1944 by Willys, and the same basic vehicle stayed in production through seven variants, and three corporate owners until 1986. A Variant of the CJ is still in production today under the Chrysler Corporation known as the Wrangler. The CJ or civilian Jeep became famous for their durability and ruggedness during war-time operations. Realizing the versatility of the Jeep, they immediately began production of a civilian model after WWII. They were built for numerous purposes, from farm use to that of municipalities for sidewalk snowplowing and even by the United States Postal Service. They also became famous amongst ranchers, hunters and off-road enthusiasts.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this 1983 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade. This stunning example comes to us by way of Beaver Island where it worked as a family cottage cruiser. Finished in Sebring Red with classic Renegade decals, this Jeep is in fantastic shape. The body is straight and clean and the paint has a bit of patina to it, but really shines. The gauges are pristine and not sun faded, and all functioning. Powering this jeep is the revered 258 cubic-inch inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. Engage the manual locking hubs and you can shift into 4-Hi, or 4-lo guaranteeing you'll make it to your destination. The off-road capabilities of this Jeep are second to none. Other features include a padded roll bar, power steering, power brakes, chrome wheels wrapped in almost new BFG All Terrains with a matching spare, and a Warn bumper with a swing out spare tire carrier.
