I am the private owner of this rust free 1984 Jeep CJ7.
Brief history:Jeep was restored as a father son duo in New Jersey roughly 5-6 years ago. I purchased from second owner since it was restored in central NY. The second owner stored it inside and drove it very sparingly. She lived in the country and took it into town and fishing on occasion. I purchased this Jeep spring of this year and drive it 3 hours home. I enjoyed every minute of the three hours.
The good:The Jeep was restored to a great driver quality. No rust. The tub was removed, coated on the underside and inside. The frame was refinished and coated. A new gas tank with a diamond plate support. All the brakes were redone on all four corners. The hood was replaced, windshield and glass. The seats were redone in waterproof neoprene. The fronts are the desirable beige and the rear has a hint of maroon to it that really goes very well with the exterior color. The engine was refurbished and the 5 speed manual tranny was rebuilt. The transfer case was refurbished also along with all the u joints. New bushings all around and new bolts and nuts are found just about everywhere. The tires and wheels are like new and georgeous. All gauges work except the temp gauge which I just purchased a new sending unit and will be installing. All lights work including on the dash. All controls work, wipers, all three speeds on heater, heater and vent controls and 4x4. Rebuilt front lock outs and a 4 inch spring lift with a dual steering stabilizer. I added a steering box brace and this Jeep is super tight and drives straight down the road at 65 with no hands. A newer expensive Petronix distributor was installed also with a new alternator. Power steering and brakes work awesome. Brand new soft top less than a month old that comes apart in many variations for riding. New battery and plugs.
The bad:The Jeep is a little grumbly the first five seconds of starting when cold sometimes but not always. The emissions were removed and a Holley 2300 installed in place of the Carter. I’ve been adjusting the electric choke and slowly I am honing it in. It runs fantastic anytime after with no burning or smoke either. No center console, put in your choice. Slight seaping of oil from the rear main, but not much at all. I never have to add oil, just being honest. Probably from sitting, and honestly I’ve never owned an old car or truck that was completely tight after five years. Temp sending unit, I have new one in hand, the actual gauge works fine. Shifter boot has a tear in it.
The ugly:The paint job is well done but a good driver quality that is now around six years old. Has some chips and scratches from driving and using it but that is it, Nothing major worst one pictured on rocker where the drive gets in. The rear seat has a couple very small tears on the top that I pictured. But again not major. The pictures of the floor may look like rust but it is just some residual dirt from me washing it out. No rust I can assure. That’s really about it.
Final thoughts:I recently took two road trips with the Jeep. One down to the southern tier which was about a 8 hour round trip. The other I just got back from was a 12 hour round trip to the Catskill mountains. The Jeep is just awesome to drive and fun like I can’t explain. Zero issues driving this thing and as a matter of fact, I would not hesitate to drive this Jeep anywhere. It is the perfect driver that shows very well and if someone wanted to take it to the next level it would be easy. The whole truck has maybe 5000 miles on it since it was redone and it shows. These Jeeps are finally going up in value as they are way more affordable and fun when compared to an old Bronco. Get this one while the price is still low and within reach. Great investment you can enjoy. Let me know any questions you have and I will be prompt in responding. I feel I have a extremely fair and low buy it now and this Jeep is probably worth more.
FYI, I am only selling after finding out my dream of owning a small building just came true and I am forced to sell everything I own to make it happen. That’s it. I will be saddened to see my “Therapy” Jeep gone. There’s nothing I loved more than dropping the top and driving for hours in this beauty.
Forgot to mention I put two brand new matching bumpers on it too. Great quality and the front has built in LED driving lightsOn Sep-09-18 at 11:59:44 PDT, seller added the following information:
