Car description

1943 FORD GPW 1/4 TON, 4WD, RESTORED AS A NORMANDY INVASION JEEP WITH PTO GENERATOR AND COMMUNICATIONS RADIOS. (FUNCTIONAL)
This jeep was manufactured in Dallas, Tx, and is believed to have spent it's entire life in Colorado. Mileage is truly unknown, as the speedometer may have been replaced, and the temp gauge is not original.
I bought it from a ranch in 1993 in a disassembled but rust-free condition, and put it back together and restored it. The star on the hood was modeled after those used in Europe with chemically reactive paint, which would change color if mustard gas was present. Thus the tan background.
I believe the engine to be orignal, as the casting number coincides with the year, but there is no serial number discernable on the engine. The machined area on the side of the head is blank. It was repainted by me, but it has not been rebuilt since I have owned it. It starts easily, runs well, but IT DOES SMOKE CONTINUOUSLY WHILE RUNNING. Please read the previous sentence again. I want bidders to be completely aware of this condition.
After restoration in 1994, it was used in some local parades and enjoyed around the neighborhood. It has since been sitting in my barn for the last 20 years. I have several other projects that require my attention, and it is time to pass this along to someone elso who can enjoy it.
Engine; 134 ci "go-devil" flat head 4 cylinder. 6-volt. Runs good, but needs work. It smokes, even after it warms up. No knocking noises, just smoke.
Transmission; 3 speed manual, clutch replaced 20 years ago during resto.
NDT tires in very good condition with no weather checking.
Special features;
  • PTO with belt-driven auxillary 12 volt generator
  • Communications radios with telephone interface hand set mic, antenna, and associated parts. (New batteries required to function)
  • Original WWII dummy training rifle (does not fire)
  • Radio sound supression system on engine
  • Spare radio tubes and radio manual
  • Beachwood reproduction canvas top and seats in great condition
  • Ford script is visible on all parts. NO reproduction parts on this GPW. All original!
  • NO rust on body, floors, or frame. No rust repairs under paint. You may find some small areas of surface rust.
This is a great example of a rust free GPW with hard to find accessories. The brakes drag a little, but that could be from sitting so long. There are no signs of the wheel cylinders leaking. One window pane has a crack in the glass. The thermostat was recently replaced, and the original has the Ford script (included).
Feel free to take a look at the recent video of my collection, commemorating the D-Day anniversary. The GPW described in this ad is the only unit for sale. Ebay does not allow links anymore, but search D day anniversary display Colorado on Youtube for the 4-minute video.
Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions. I can respond much faster with a call versus email. I am available during business hours M-F, Mountain time.I can assist in loading. The GPW will not leave my posession until all funds have cleared my bank. No exceptions.Fred; 303-688-3611
