Car description |

If like me, you have always loved the look and elegance of the classic Jaguar XJ6 you are in luck! This 1987 Series 3 XJ6, is a really good example that doesn't need a ton of work to be driven and enjoyed as a daily driver! In short it needs nothing to be driven and enjoyed daily just as she sits!
I am a life long collector and restorer of Jaguar Saloons. I was offered this excellent condition locally owned late model Series 3 XJ6 by the son of the original local owners. Purchased new at Jaguar of Walnut Creek it spent its life in the Santa Rosa Healdsburg areas. All service was performed locally and the car was garaged during its entire life.
When his parents decided to sell the family home and move to assisted living they were only allocated one garage space so the second car (this Jaguar) had to go! Not wanting their treasured Jag to fall into the hands of someone who might not care for and keep their treasured Jaguar in Top Form, they brought the car to me for my advice. I fell in love with it from first sight, and agreed to add it to my collection.
After a very close inspection of the car I was amazed to see just how well they had kept her up over the years! First of all The car has NEVER been SMOKED in. This means a lot to me as I HATE the stench of stale cigarette smoke. In addition as the car had been stored inside since it was purchased and has been kept super clean inside and out! The chrome is like ne, the sheet metal (all body panels) are straight, clean and rust free, and best of all never crashed and repaired!
After going through and servicing the car completely, I gave it to my Grandson for driving he and our Granddaughter to and from school and work. After graduating he is now off to college, and I need the space so it is time to send her off to her next caretaker!
Condition Summery:
The good: After acquiring the car and bringing it into my collection (I currently own 9 Vintage cars 5 of which are vintage Jaguar sedans), I began a through Front to back inspection and service of every item that required repair, replacement or adjustment. In the process I did (or caused to be done) the following items:
#1) Serviced and replaced all fluids, filters, plug, wires, Battery, gaskets, belts, hoses etc etc etc.#2) New tires, brakes, bearings, various ball joints and mounts as required.#3) New (Not rebuilt) transmission, all associated linkages, mount, gaskets fluids filters etc etc.#4) The rear suspension and outboard rear axle support bearings as well all spacers etc.#5) Clean adjust and lubricate all electric motors (Window Lift motors etc) switches,
The Bad (Or bad "ISH", as there isn't really anything BAD here at all): As stated earlier, the car is in original paint and the original leather interior. These original finishes and upholstery are all in very good original condition and are all usable as they are. Though they are usable they are NOT "Like New" . I feel that as this is such a great looking and driving car, by taking care of these few cosmetic items would be worth every nickle!
#1) The cars of this period used the early "Base Coat- Clear Coat" paint system. In this process the car first receives a coat of "COLOR" paint . Next a coat of "CLEAR" paint is applied over the Color coat. This "Clear Coat" gives the paint that shiny or WET" look such as you would see in fresh wet paint. The problems we have seen with these early systems (Especially here in the west and south West where the sun tends to be hot and common), is that the clear top coat tends to expand and contract at a different rate than the color base coat! This will over time create a "Haze" or a collection or micro cracks in the clear top coating.
The easy fix is to repaint . in this case I think simply respraying the roof should make it much better, and ready for its NEXT 33 years of enjoyment.
#2) The rear seat base cushion has a panel that should be repaired, in addition, there is a seam along the top edge of the rear seat back cushion that the thread has perished. and needs to be repaired (I may have already fix this before the car is sold, I will do my best.#3)The seat base on the drivers seat has a small (2.5inch?) spot of wear.
#4)The A/C needs to be rechargedI have loads of photos and will be happy to send them as well as answer any questions!
This is a very nice car and is ready to drive home if you wish!
