Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this pretty decent E-type two-seater coupe. This car was just purchased out of a Jaguar collection from it's long term owner in Iowa where I'm sure it didn't see much use recently. This car runs and drives OK but would benefit from a tune-up/service, tires, and simply being put to us by it's next enthusiastic driver. The car's cosmetics are older but seem OK currently for a decent driver. The body on this car appears quite decent and straight. Gapping overall is decent and could use some fine tuning. It currently wears an older amateur paint job, OK as a driver, but upon closer inspection is showing plenty of cracking, lifting, poor prep work, and some skinning of filler in various places. The current copper color It would benefit greatly from a good repaint in it's original color, which appears to be factory Black, as seen deep up under the dashboard...The car's underside appears fairly solid and decent, with only few repairs. The interior trim is in fairly good condition, as it appears to be a specialist kit fitted in a correct Jaguar tan color. Seats are the updated 4.2 units which are more comfortable with the reclining ratchet system. The headliner could use re-gluing. There are a few loose ends that could use retidying on the interior trim, but it's in very nice condition overall, and certainly fine for a nice car.The engine block currently fitted to the car is a later 3.8 E -type RA unit with a ZA prefix head. It's very clean and nicely detailed, suggesting evidence of a rebuild. The engine starts easily on the key, revs well, shows decent oil pressure with no smoke or noises. t's fitted with an electronic ignition. The car drives nicely down the road but would benefit from tires and a good thorough look over/ service. The clutch bites well, the gearbox shifts fine with a deliberate pause between gears ( like it should). The wire wheels fitted are in good shape and are the upgraded S2 units with the better forged hubs. The car is complete except the fiberglass air cleaner box. A nice touch are the period Lucas headlights. The car still retains it's original data plate, matching body tag.Production date is around mid-July, 1962.Overall, a fairly good, running and driving 3.8 Liter Coupe for easy improvement. This car can be used and enjoyed right away. It would benefit from cosmetic improvements at some point in it's future. These early 3.8's are desirable for their purity of bloodline and raw race car character, and this pretty coupe is a smart investment going forward.
