1962 JAGUAR MK10 SPORTS SALOON. OLDE ENGLISH WHITE WITH TAN TRIM. 3.8 LITER WITH TRIPLE CARBURETORS. AUTOMATIC GEARBOX. POWER STEERING. VERY NICE COMPLETE CALIFORNIA CAR FOR GENERAL RECOMMISSIONING.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very decent and complete MK10 Saloon. This large luxury 4-door Jaguar was just purchased locally here in Southern California where it was in storage since 1993, for almost 25 years. It is a very decent car that needs general restoration/improvement, but is an excellent car to start with.
The body on this car is actually very nice and straight with excellent to superb panel gaps/alignment. There are no signs of any accidents and the rust situation is very minimal. There's some strange but repairable rust-through at the base of each A-post. There is some typical minimal bubbling along the bottom of the doors. The lower body also shows a few small spots around the front of the wheelarchs for easy repair. Underneath, the car looks very solid with excellent sills. There are a few simple repair patches needed at the front/outer of the floors, but in general the underside looks pretty solid. We have plenty of original keys for the car but we can't open the trunk. The car's chromework is complete and in very decent shape overall. Some pieces have cleaned up beautifully, others are average and could use a replating. The front are rear windscreen finishers have popped out because of hardened rubber, but are there on the back seat. The car still retains all of the original hubcaps and rimbellishers as standard.
The car's interior leather trim/woodwork is highly original but has deteriorated from the years sitting in the California sunshine, and would need retrimming/refinishing. The glass appears to be complete, original, and in good shape. The front windscreen shows some delaminating.
Acccording to the longtime owner, the car's mechanicals were very good when parked. He stated that the he swapped out the car's original tired engine with an excellent running engine from another MK10. The current engine fitted is this one, which is about 600 units earlier than the original listed engine on the car's data plate. I'm sure the car's fuel system and braking system would also need attention.
Overall, a large, classy luxury Jaguar Sports Saloon for easy and straightforward improvement for a very sensible price. Truly "a lot of car for the money".
