I list my auctions critically so you know what to expect without lots of hype. I understand there are bidders who are unable to inspect the vehicle in person so I do my best to mention items needing attention so that you have minimal surprises once taking ownership. Although I list in good faith, it is impossible to describe all details of a vehicle. So I encourage you to look at the pictures on a large screen device and be sure to ask any questions you may have.
The Good:
This 1971 Scout II is a great platform for your project. I would consider it in it's current condition to be a 30 or 40 "footer". It runs, drives, and stops. This scout has a 345ci V8, it has a T-18 transmission, and it's 4x4. The frame is solid. The interior is in above average shape for a scout of this age. It appears that this scout was repainted at some point and the paint still has gloss to it. The engine runs pretty good. The Holley 2bbl carb has been rebuilt and there is a new starter solenoid installed. It has power steering and a new steering stabilizer has been installed. It has a newer alternator installed. The tires are like new. All glass is in good shape. Interior lights come on when doors open. Voltmeter, oil pressure gage, speedo all work The driver's side floorboards have been replaced. The line set ticket, original warranty registration, and owners manual will be included.
The Bad:The scout has some typical scout rust. There is rust in the lower windshield frame, in the front parts of the front inner fenders, in the front passenger body mount area, and in the rear floor area as pictured. There is bubbling in the fender lips and rockers and door bottoms. There is other minor bubbling elsewhere. Please look at pictures. The exhaust manifolds are rusted and will need replaced. The exhaust manifold gaskets are failing so the engine has a good exhaust leak chop sound to it. The brakes work ok, but I planned on an overhaul (see further down). The headlights need wiring. They were tied into a plow harness that was removed. Fuel level gage doesn't work. There is a dent in the tailgate. Parking brake does not function. It does have a few leaks, but nothing excessive. I do not have a key for the door locks.
The Good again:I planned on restoring this scout so I purchased a lot of very expensive parts that will be included with the sale. These parts include but are not limited to:Solid Windshield frame with glass
Rust free front inner fendersNice stock valve covers
All new brake drumsAll new wheel cylindersAll new Brake shoesNew brake hardware kitNew front shock absorbersNew rear shock absorbers
All new exhaust manifolds
New ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, and plugsNew full engine gasket set
If you are in the market for a scout and looking for a solid platform for restoration or resto-mod this one is probably for you. Despite it's typical scout flaws, it's got an aweful lot going for it. These are gaining popularity and demand is quickly increasing. Putting it frankly, you really can't go wrong if you are looking for a scout to put some work into.
Now for the un-fun terms and stuff: The vehicle has been represented to the best of my ability through the pictures and description. The information is provided in good faith. Interested buyers are welcome and encouraged to schedule viewing in person if they wish. The vehicle is sold in as-is condition and sale is final. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24hrs by paypal. The balance is due within 5 business days. Buyer is responsible for pickup or transport. Pickup should be scheduled within 2 weeks, but no longer than 4 weeks. Failure to meet terms will result in void of sale. I will do my best to be available to assist with loading with enough advanced warning. The sooner the better as I have work travel approaching. PLEASE- If you have questions ask them and make no assumptions. Your due diligence will help make this auction a good experience for all.
