It's hard to find a better collector car from the 1990s than the 1991 GMC Syclone. It was a one-year-only turbocharged all-wheel drive pickup with a serious midnight attitude. So to find one of the few 2,995 examples ever, and for an affordable price, it really delivers standout appeal.
GMC perfectly tapped into the premium/sporty truck world with a factory light pickup that looked like a full custom machine. This was a single-year run all done in black. GMC gave these a great monotone look with the bumpers, grille, side mirrors, and aggressive body kit finished in this midnight attitude. And that's only heightened by the factory 16-inch alloys upgraded to the blackout treatment. There are even more dark upgrades like the black liner paint in the bed and Ventshade rain guards. This whole package is so dark that the headlights are like glowing eyes even when it's daytime.
Inside, the black velour bucket seats with cool red pinstriping mimic the exterior blackout with red Syclone side badging. This coordinates with the door panels, and it all has the fresh feeling of a solid recent investment. These dual bucket seat combine with the upgraded gauge package, center console, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel to really turn this truck into a sports car. This also has a ton of great features, like the factory AM/FM/CD stereo, power locks, tilt wheel, cruise control, and provisions for power windows. Plus, the air conditioning has been converted to R134a to keep this hot-shot truck feeling cool.
What makes the Syclone a true classic is under the hood. The 4.3-liter motor in the Sonoma was upgraded to supercar status thanks to a Mitsubishi turbocharger and Garrett intercooler. Turning a beefy pickup into a muscle machine required more than just boosting the motor. This fuel-injected powerplant was also fortified to handle the extra power. Plus, the Borg Warner all-wheel drive transfer case has a rear weight bias to give the perfect balance between performance driving and superior grip. That same balance is found in the four-speed automatic transmission that can downshift for power and then return to overdrive cruising comfort. Add in power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, ABS, a limited-slip rear end, and Falken performance tires, and this is the truck with all the right moves to take on the streets.
Complete with owner's manual, Syclones are a rare treat. So to find one within reach is a fleeting opportunity. Call today!!!
