1956 GMC Suburban Carrier (not to be confused with the Chevrolet Cameo). It came with the desirable V8, a Pontiac engine and 3 on the tree. That's right, Pontiac. GMC used different running gear than the Chevy trucks and the interiors were different. The 6 cyl motors were GMC and the V8 motors were Pontiac. Pontiac had always had a relationship with GMC and the new Pontiac V8 motor was shared with them. It was larger in cubic inches and made more power than the Chevy at the time. The motor and transition is missing. The under the bed spare tire carrier is also missing. I have all the rare trim pieces. The truck is in need of a complete restoration. It does roll but the brakes are iffy. My truck came from California with title and I have never registered it for a new one. It also has the desirable big back window. Almost all the sheet metal is available and other parts are easy to come buy as they are shared with the standard GMC or Chevy trucks. Really the bed, tailgate and rear bumper are the only unique parts. There is some rust and dents (last 3 pics) but nothing major for a 60 year old truck. The fiberglass is in great shape. Oh yeah the beds were produced with Fiberglas fender sides mounted to the standard steel cargo box and a hidden spare tire compartment in the middle of the rear bumper the tailgate had the latches mounted inside and was supported by retractable cables, I don't have the retractable cables. I have read several reasons why Fiberglas was chosen the most reasonable explanation was the speed in which these trucks could be brought into production and they already had a company making the Corvette body. Another explanation is that GM promised a certain amount of work for the company that made the Corvette body and lack of sales helped in choosing the Fiberglas for the in choosing the Fiberglas for the Cameo and Carrier. They only made around 1000 of these in its 4 year production run. I have read that less than 300 were made in 1956. There are probably only a hand full left. These are sure to one day be a very desirable truck. Please do your own research and ask questions before bidding. I have told you all I THINK I know. It's sold where is as is. I cannot help load other than opening the gate.
