With a fuel-injected V8, five-speed, upgraded suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes wrapped in the GT350 appearance, this 1966 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute Restomod is going to turn some heads as it shows them its taillights.
A car like this need no introduction as an icon. The sleek fastback style makes for a great canvas for the factory-correct Wimbledon White and added metallic blue striped package. The hood scoop, hood pins, side scoop, and 10-spoke wheels are all Shelby favorites. Even the details look good, like the GT350 gas cap. It has the true appearance of a performance machine, and the newer brightwork package - including full trim and mirror-like bumpers - really add to the appeal. But it would be a shame if you bought this just for its looks, because this is a serious performance machine, and we've just scratched the surface on the upgrades.
Inside there's plenty more race-ready components. It starts with a full roll cage package that adds strength to this coupe. You've got a wood-rimmed Cobra steering wheel, a large SunPro tach prominently mounted in the center of the dash, and gForce five-point harnesses for both bucket seats. More than just the right race-ready features, this has the solid look of a good investment with a smooth dash, nice carpeting, and taut door panels. There are great upgrades, like a retro-style AM/FM radio with Bluetooth. There are even provisions for R134a air conditioning, but currently in a performance setup, there is no belt on the compressor. And that the touchscreen is your gateway to something extra special under the hood.
The engine bay has a tidy look, and cool details, like the Mustang air grabber, Cobra valve covers, and a bracer bar across the engine bay. But what's really impressive is are the upgrades that lie underneath. This is a 302 cubic-inch V8 with GT40 heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake, and long tube headers that feed a growling dual exhaust. Best of all, it's topped with a Holley electronic fuel injection system that you dial-in from the driver's seat. It's even supported by the right pieces, like upgraded pulleys with serpentine belt system and an aluminum radiator w/electric fan. The Tremec five-speed manual transmission means you really get to harness this pony's full power. This is a strong-running package, and it's also a strong driver with four-wheel power disc brakes and power assisted steering. And as you look at the undercarriage photos, you're even going to see an upgrade to a triangulated four-link rear with Varishock adjustable coilovers.
So this is a full package that has the Shelby style you love and all the upgrades you really would have wanted to do already in place. Looking closely if you decode the VIN for the car, it started life as a coupe. This is becoming a very common thing as it's easy to modify a coupe and give it the fastback roofline which is a much more desirable look. That's why this is an irresistible GT350 tribute.
