1974 Ford F-350 Ranger XLT Camper Special. This beautiful rear-wheel-drive long-bed pickup is powered by a 460ci V8 is mated to a three speed C6 automatic transmission. New VintageAir AC, power steering and power brakes. BF Goodrich All-Season tires, including spare, halogen headlights. Comes equipped with a rear view mirror, a step-up rear bumper, trailering mirrors, and trailer hitch receiver. Currently 96,600 miles. Clean title. Always owned and driven in California. No body rust and only light surface rust underneath.
Engine compression reported as strong by local mechanic who has helped maintain this truck over the past 6 years. Exhaust and muffler are solid. Thank you for looking.
This truck accelerates very well and drives nicely. Original green paint has faded to a great camo color. Couldn't bring myself to repaint. This truck has been a solid working "small ranch" truck for us over the last 6 years. It's time to find it an appreciative new owner.
Maintenance records for the following:
Engine and Drivetrain
Replaced original radiator with high-capacity aluminum radiator. Original brass radiator top and bottom pieces come with sale.Replaced water pump and hoses, fuel pump, and oil pump.Replaced original nylon timing gears with Edelbroch steel timing gears and chain. Replaced carb with Holly 4-Barrel, gasket, and replaced all vacuum hoses.Replaced oil pressure and water temperature sendersResealed valve coversPlugs, wires, and general tuneupReplaced steering boxRebuilt C6 transmissionReplaced limited-slip clutches in differential
Electrical System
Tied two batteries together with custom positive battery cable. Original second battery powered camper shell that was originally delivered with truck. Now it helps start the truck easily in really cold weather. Replaced original headlamps with Sylvania halogen headlights and added relays. Original headlamps are unbelievably dim by modern standards.Replaced original alternator with Summit Racing alternator. The Summit alternator provides better charge at low RPM.Dual batteries replaced
Fuel System
Replaced original rear 20-gallon poly fuel tank with $1200 custom stainless tank of same size. Original poly tanks for this sub-model are now unobtanium.
Brakes, Tires, Shocks
Replaced shocks, brakes. Rear drum, dual-caliper front diskInstalled 4 BF Goodrich All Season offroad tires, plus 5th for spare, all on 16" rims. Has original hub caps.Replaced brake booster and master cylinder.
Body
Replaced rubber trim on doors and windows, installed new window regulators and window cranks. Installed a VintageAir Air Conditioning system. This is a complete AC system replacement with all new parts and uses modern refrigerant. The original AC evaporator and plenum are both unobtainium as is (often) finding a tech who will recharge the original R-12 refrigerant.Rehabbed wipers and windshield washer system with new tank and hoses.Replaced tailgate latch handle and locking mechanism with new partsCompleted LED "bright" lamp conversion for interior, under-hood, side-marker, brake lights, and rear turn signal. Front turn signal lamps are still original bulbs.
Interior
Rebuilt instrument cluster including new circuit board and LED backlight lamps.Replaced door panels as well as front and rear window glass and rubber.Installed working original Ford AM/FM radio. Replaced glove box liner, turn signal switch, and instrument cluster bezelInstalled a locking hood release.Installed new seatbelts and shoulder harnesses for driver and passenger. A new lap belt for center occupant was also installed. Only lap belts were provided with original truck.Headliner sags an inch or so in the center but is in otherwise good condition.Tear on driver side of bench seat in the usual spot.
Documentation
Maintenance records back 10 years are available from myself and the immediate prior owner, a Sacramento-area mechanic. I am the third owner since new. Documentation includes the original owners manual, original Ford brochures, a complete set of (kitchen table sized) electrical schematic sheets, and an 4" thick original 73-79 Ford truck shop manual.
Parts
F-350 has helper rear springs and a geared-down rear-end for towing, otherwise these trucks were parts-identical to the 1974 F-250. Parts are readily available through www.lmctruck.com, broncograveyard.com, and npdparts.com among others.
Fuel, Smog
Regular gas back in 1974 was 96 octane. We fuel this truck with high-test at 92-octane and have no performance problems hauling full 3000lb bed-loads of rock or gravel in the summer heat here in the Sierras. Cruises easily on the highway @ 70+.
This truck is smog-exempt in California. 1974 is the latest model year you can buy that is California smog exempt. No catalytic converter was included in this model year.
