This car was sold new at Morris Landy Ford in Alameda, California and has only resided across the water in Oakland, California. The car was purchased in 1973 from the originalowner and then was parked in 1975 after the "Thunderbird" valve covers were stolen. The Galaxie was left inside a large building with a few hundred other cars including every Galaxie from 1959-1968. For the last 45 years this Galaxie was sitting in that building. For the opportunisticthis is a fine chance to own a classicand desirable convertible. 1964 was a high water mark for Ford vehicles and Galaxies in particular in both styling and quality. 1964 was the year Ford Motor Company had the strictest quality controls over their vehicles and it was until 1965 they realized they didn't need to build them as good. 1964 was also a year for great racing successfor Ford and the Galaxie 500 in particular, that successtrickled down into the performance of Fords civilian cars. In other words this isn't some off year 6 cylinder or small v8 model; this is a pinnacleyear with a performance big V8 convertible that has sat untouched for 45 years. In the 11 years this car was on California roads it was never driven into a body shop. The guardsman blue paint is original, as they say they're only original once and 56 years is a long time. The original California black plates were turned in when the car changed ownership in 1973, however the Galaxie still retains the early California 6 digit blue plates it received in 1973.Cosmetically this car is in good conditionfor a 56 year old convertible. The body is fairly straight and rust free. There are a little dings and dents here and there but no big damage. All of the metal on the car is original rust free steel with no rust or bondo. The Guardsman Blue paint is 100% original. With a strong detail, cut and polish the paint could be brought back to shine. All of the chrome is present and in decent shape. It isn't perfect but could be polished and shine. The drivers rear taillightand upper trunk trim will need to be replaced. The mirror will also need to be replaced. This car is equipped with rocker moldings which is somewhat rare for a Galaxie. The convertible top will need to be replaced. All of the glass is in great shape except for the windshieldwhich has a few cracks.Step inside this Galaxie and the interior is in good shape for 56 years old. The dash gauges all appearto be in good condition. Allthe door panels are in great shape, vibrant with no tears. The front seats are in great shape with no rips. They are vibrant and comfortable. The rear seat bottom is missing. The carpet is present but not in great shape.Mechanically the car has not last been on the road since Richard Nixon was president, the car is not currentlyin driving condition. The entire drive trainis complete with the original Z code 390 V8, transmission and rear end. Everything will need and should be gone through before driving the car.
