Car description

1968 Ford Mustang Fastback

The Mustang was originally available as either a hardtop or convertible, but during the car's early design phases a fastback model was strongly considered. In 1965, a newly introduced fastback body version with its swept-back rear glass and distinctive ventilation louvers became available.

Imagine having the coolest new car on the block in 1968, the Ford Mustang. Then ramp that up and imagine the coolest version of said wildly popular Mustang, that being the fastback version. Couple that with a consigner stated 393ci stroker V8 and strap a 4-barrel carburetor on and now you are living large. A great example of this ultimate cool, we give you this fastback to grace your driveway, and also give you the ability to turn the key and drive away, in this fully restored version of one of the most popular cars ever built. We give you a Bullitt clone. In the name of full disclosure we must divulge that this car started life as a hardtop and underwent a massive transformation to become the fastback seen before you. Extensive work brings you the car before your eyes and a full photo album of the transformation comes with the purchase.

Exterior
From the simple blackened front horizontal ribbed grille, shaved of its galloping pony, to the single headlight on either side, up through the hood complete with rear facing dual cowls with inset turn signal indicators, we are bathed in Highland Green with envy. The sloping rear roof line in fastback form has louvered B pillar vents. This beautiful pony car possesses excellent fit and finish. It's all about awe with the good condition, and shape of this beauty. Restored chrome and britework, and classic American Racing matte gray 5 spoke wheels are wrapping all 4 corners. Bringing up the rear is a centrally located large glass filler cap, and the iconic 3 taillights this time using the V pattern angling inward. It just does not get any better than this.

Interior
Hold that last thought...because throw open the doors and reveal a pristine black vinyl interior seating setup of a 2 plus 2. This is grounded by fade free carpet, and a Hurst shifter between the standard low back buckets up front. Looking at the dash, we see a wonderful amalgamation of dual eyebrow cowled padded black vinyl dash tops, wood appliqu, and new round analog/digital gauges completely revamped and restyled as to their location from the original. Black panels are on the door panels, and sides of the rear 2 plus 2. A digital radio now sits where the original was and looks very nice. A tight black headliner which has recently been installed is above all this excitement and sports an aluminum plane led console that runs from the rear 2 plus 2's to the front where it affords some LED downlighting. Very modern. A GT500 Cobra emblazoned center badged steering wheel with drilled spokes sits in front of the redone dash.

Drivetrain
A pop of the hood and you'll have to squint, because there is so much bling you will barely be able to stand it! A proper consigner stated 393ci V8 which started life as a 351ci Windsor V8 and has now been bored and stroked. This is topped by Blue Oval Performance heads, headers, shiny Ford valve covers, and a single 4-barrel Quickfuel carburetor over an Edelbrock polished intake. Attached at the back is a 5-speed manual transmission by Tremec, and a rear axle of 8.8 inches with 4.11 gears.

Undercarriage
Doesn't get any better than this, rust free, good floorpans and unibody seams, and structurally sound framing. Martz independent coil overs and rack and pinion steering for the front, and 4 link with coil overs on the rear are the suspension makeup. Power Wilwood disc brakes are all around, and a Flowmaster exhaust snakes its way rearward...

Drive-Ability
Starts quickly and sounds great. The Hurst shifter is a nice addition. This car drives fantastically, corners like it's on rails, and stops on a dime. Good acceleration is an understatement, and a loud cruise is available with the 5-speed tranny.

Flash back to 1968, suburbia in the driveway, hottest car to come along in years, and it's in your neighbor's driveway. Fast forward we are in the new millennium, same car, your driveway, and the car looks and performs better than it did when it left the showroom. Come on down .....Fast....back! Bullitt clone, and all buttoned up!
