Car description

This 1946 Ford F1 Half Ton Panel is as solid and original as you'll find. Last used in the nineteen-fifties, it's been in dry, covered storage ever since. The body, frame, and chassisare virtually rust free although the body has numerous dings and dents, none of them from actual collisions but, probably, fromcareless use when, supposedly, it belonged to a small-town laundry (this may or may not be true). I think that the odometer registers approximately 50,000 miles and, possibly, is correct although I make no guarantees on this. All of the original glass is in place and in good condition; the windows crank up and down smoothlyand the door locks work. The original key was in the ignition when I found this panel and is in a safe place now. All four doors are in good condition and reasonably straight, especially the back ones which, often-times, were heavily used and damaged;all the doorsopen and close smoothly andthe latches work as they should. The instrument panel is complete and in good condition; whether or not the speedometer and guages work, I don't know. There is no heater. The driver's seat is original and very rebuildable. Another seat is in the back but it's to something newer and was stored, unused, inside this panel for many years. The wood bed in the cargo area is in excellent condition with no moisture damage or dry rot. As you can see, the grille is dinged and dented but very restorable, as are the running boards. Both front and rear bumpers arepresent and in good condition. The radiator had been removed when I found this vehicle but it's in the cargo area. Does this mean that this panel had a heating problem, a leaky radiator, or that its former owners began a motor overhaul but didn't get aroundto it? I don't know, but the Flathead Ford V8 engine is free and turns over smoothly, as does the transmission, the drive-line and the rear end. The front two wheels with their hub-caps are original; the back wheels are a pair of old 15 inch white spoke wheels that were put on it so it will roll (the original back wheels and tires and the spare wheel and tire were stolen; I have since found three more original 5-hole 16 inch wheels). I have no idea whether or not this Ford will run; I've never attempted to start it. Other than the wheels and tires just mentioned, this vehicle iscomplete and very solid. The dark green paintappears to beoriginal as is the seat. It's cold in Montana this time of year and the building I have this panel storedin has abouta hundred other vintage cars and trucks in it, some of them blocking movement of this old Ford, or I would have rolled it outside to take better photos. I'm trying to guage interest in this vehicle to see whether I'm better off selling it as is, or restoring it. Production numbers for this half ton panel were very low in 1946, right after World War 2. It's very hard to find one of these that's not been altered, chopped up, hot-rodded, or damaged and rebuilt.
