Very solid, good running and driving, tastefully upgraded (all period-correct) but largely original, one family-owned (1977-2019), early 1977 Ford F250 Ranger 4X4 Highboy pickup truck. 1977 was a split model year for F250 4X4's; early 77's had the divorced transfer case (Highboy) and late 77's (known as 77.5's) had the attached transfer case (Lowboy). Generally speaking, all these trucks are very cool but Highboys are more desirable with many thinking 1977 is the most because it represents the last of the breed.
It runs and drives very well. The engine is a 351M V8 which has been rebuilt at some point and has an Edelbrock intake manifold, carburetorand air filter, and Holley valve covers. The carb has been rebuilt (still idles a little rough), and a new fuel pump and HEI distributor have just been installed. It runs through an NP435 manual transmission to a divorced NP205 transfer case. The front differential is a Dana 44 (with disk brakes and locking hubs) and the rear differential is a Dana 60 (with 4.10 gears). The 4WD system works properly and it starts, accelerates, shifts, steers, turns, brakes and stops as it should.
The interior is in mostly original condition with just a few period-correct mods. They include a very cool Highliner overhead stereo console headliner with 4 speakers, a Kenwood AM/FM/cassette deck (it even works), and a mini Sun Super Tach II tachometer. I removed an old aftermarket seat cover to show the upholstery. It's rough butserviceable and can be used as a pattern. The dash is in great shape with no cutting or butchery of any kind and all buttons and knobs in place. A neat pic of a mountain lion has been painted in the center. All gauges work but heater fan and cigarette lighter do not. All glass is good and windows roll up and down properly (passenger side window regulator could use lubrication). I removed the worn carpeting to show that floors have some rust-through (not bad). They have been treated with a rust reformer. Depending on your climate you may want to fix them or just leave as is.
The exterior has all original paint other than the right front fender. On the passenger side the door, door frame, and cab corner have some rust issues as do the bed fender wells on both sides which is typical. Everything isdocumented clearly in my extra pictures. Rust is mostly on the passenger side because it faced away from the sun while parked for many years. Patch panels are readily available and very inexpensive or just leave as is and preserve the patina. Headlights work but taillights do not. Wheels are cool, period-correct slotted mags; tires have great tread but are old with some cracking.
This is a good truck with solid bones and it's the last of the Highboys. It runs, drives, shifts, steers, turns and brakes nicely and is pretty tight (other than a rattly passenger door). And it's mostly stock and original. It could easily be a daily driver. I hope it ends up with someone who will use it, preserve it or restore it. Stock and largely original vintage trucks like this which haven't been horribly modified over the years are getting harder to find. Just my two cents.
