Car description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Time to let go of my car collection. This is what most people look for - a turn key, unmolested, unrestored survivor. An early one owner California 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang convertible with a 289 V8 4V engine and 4 speed transmission. (I am technically the 2nd owner - after purchasing it from the owners widow I put it in storage and never used it). I was friends of the owner who bought it new in California in 1964 - all highway miles, no city driving. I received a call from a friend who knew it was going to be put up for sale in an estate and I bought the car over the telephone before it was put up for sale. All of the original documents, receipts, original owners manual, original window sticker, California registrations, California title, California black license plates go with the car. It was built on May 26, 1964 in Dearborn Michigan and sold to my friend June 9th, 1964. The window sticker shows: Mustang convertible in Rangoon Red- $2703. Power top- $54.10. 4 Speed Transmission- $188. 650X14 WW Tires- $33.90. Rocker Panel Mouldings- $16.10. AM Radio- $58.50. Padded Visors- $5.70. 289 4V Engine- $65.70. (At the time the standard V8 engine was the 260 and the 289 was an option). Total of $3231.50 including $106.50 for transportation. Total mileage is 74395 but the engine was completely rebuilt (with receipts) and balanced on 10-26-92 and only driven about 800 miles since then due to the owners passing, so basically the engine is brand new. VALUE:

As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1965 Mustang Convertible (they do not list a 1964 1/2 and 64 1/2 cars are generally considered to be more collectible) at: Fair: $22,000. Good: $34,500. Excellent: $43,000. Concours: $59,400. NADA classic car values are: Low: $15,650. Average: $38,600. High: $61,500. With the probability that prices will continue to increase over time. This Mustangs condition is somewhere between good and excellent in my estimation.

ENGINE:

It is the original matching numbers optional 289 V8 D code engine with 210 horsepower, 300 ft. lbs. of torque, 9.0:1 compression. 4V 4 barrel carburetor. Runs on regular gas. It was completely rebuilt 10-26-92 but has only accumulated about 800 miles since the rebuild due to the owners death, so the engine is in like new condition and the rebuilding receipts go with the car. Starts and runs perfectly. Water pump and carburetor were rebuilt at the same time. The original carburetor still has the original aluminum ID tag on it stamped C4GF AE B 4EB 1964. The intake manifold still has the original aluminum ID tag on it stamped 289-65 4E 550C.

TRANSMISSION:

The original matching numbers 4 speed manual transmission works perfectly.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

Excellent, straight, no rust, original paint, solid. No accident damage, rust or other issues anywhere. 1964 Factory chalk markings are still visible. Correct VIN numbers are clearly stamped in all places.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT:

Excellent, solid, no rust, no damage, original paint, no issues. The Fomoco trunk mat is still the 1964 factory original.

BODY PANELS, SHEET METAL:

The car was always garaged - no rust, no damage. Floors and everything else are perfect originals. Perfect condition with the exception of a small area in the lower bottom of the left front fender as shown.

EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:

Chrome and stainless trim is all original and still in good condition.

INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:

The interior is all original 1964 factory. Excellent condition throughout with the exception of the drivers seat needing repair as shown. Carpeting is original and still in good condition. The dash is original and undamaged, uncracked. The original good 1964 Fomoco rubber floor mats come with the car. Original factory Fomoco seat belts are intact and excellent. Original excellent 1964 convertible top boot is included.

DASH AREA:

All original and nice. Original uncracked dash top. All of the gauges, switches, lights, etc work perfectly. Original radio works fine. Power top works perfectly up and down. Everything works perfectly. Speedometer and odometer work fine.

ELECTRICAL:

All original and in excellent condition. Nothing ripped out, jumpered, repaired or rodent eaten. All wiring and harnesses are excellent and original. Everything electrical works perfectly with the exception of the horns. These are the huge early horns and I would suspect the horn relay, not the horns. New battery.

GLASS:

All glass is factory original and in excellent undamaged condition. No cracks, scratches or other issues. All windows roll up and down perfectly.

CHASSIS:

The underside is excellent, rust free, straight, original, complete and undamaged from front to back.

WHEELS/TIRES:

All 5 wheels and original wheel covers are in excellent condition. Tires are good but old. Wheels are 14 inch. Tires are E7814.

SUSPENSION/BRAKES/STEERING:

All complete, original and unmodified. Steering works perfectly. A new brake master cylinder was recently installed. The brakes drag just slightly but all it needs is to be driven.

PAINT:

Original owner had one repaint in the 80's due to fading and is now in decent drivers quality condition, respectable but with fading on the hood and trunk lid and minor issues. Hood has round 8" area where paint has lifted. Excellent original factory paint is still intact under the hood, inside the trunk, trunk lid and door jambs.

EXHAUST:

All manifolds and the complete exhaust system are intact and sound nice. A little on the loud side for me personally (am 77) but would be "sporty" for others.

FACTORY ID PLATES:

The original ID plates are all excellent and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is 5FO8D146830. The factory door tag reads: Body - 76A - convertible. Color - J - Rangoon red. Trim - 86 - black. Date - 26E - May 26, 1964. DSO - 24 - Jacksonville. Axle - 1 - 3:00 : 1/ Trans - 5 - 4 speed manual. These are all the correct original factory numbers.

PAPERWORK:

The car comes with a clear proper California title, original owners manual, original MSRP window sticker (not a reprint), original 1965 Ford Advisory Board sticker, (he was on the board), rebuilding receipts.

INSPECTION OF CAR:

It is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what they think they are getting is indeed one in the same and something they will be happy with. I have sold roughly 30 autos/motorcycles through ebay over the past 20 years and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers with 100 percent positive feedback on every transaction.

SHIPPING:

Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport. The cheapest and most efficient method usually is for you to call a transport broker in your area and have them put out bids for the job. I can handle all shipping if necessary but it would cost more. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.

PAYMENT & BIDDING:

Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid WILL be cancelled. A $1000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days or sooner via a bank cashiers check, personal check or wire transfer. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection.
