DISCOVERED : Rare STARLINER with Racing history - hipo 1961 ford starliner z code 390 375/401 hp car with clean title ***
This Starliner was bought new to dragrace by known Desmoins Drag racer JOHN CORT & WIFE MARGARET ( they also raced a rare thunderbolt (see pic.) & won sportsman class in this 61 starliner at old Desmoins Dragway- I have old Winterset news article on this, I also have Desmoins article on John Cort winning in his thunderbolt!
John Cort had ford dealership "connections" in and around Desmoins, not the least of which I was Karl Moyer (who was sales person at a ford dealership at the time).
I bought the car from the Watson family in Desmoins who knew and respected the starliners race history and kept the car for all these years. They knew the history and took the car over to John Corts house and had him verify that it was his old car and then later on Old Desmoins Dragway Historian Larry Lathom took the picture (see pic) at John Corts house of John and his race cars (this starliner and thunderbolt) for a calender years back . the Watson.s home is in background of starliner in the picture.
THE 390 IS GONE has 292 3 speed YARD DRIVES OFF CAN ONLY)
(I contacted Desmoins dragway historian Larry Lathom today, he is going to check his notes from speaking with John Cort years earlier to see if in his notes he had anything on the tripower.
Larry knows this cars history and has spoke to Watson & Cort family over the years.
