This listing offers what may be the only opportunity you'll ever have to purchase a very rare Ford F-1 Marmon-Herrington 4WD/AWD Ranger, this one a 1950. They arethat rare. The example offered here is in very good unrestored condition as shown in grey primer in the photos above. There were approximately only 57 M-H Rangers made in total during the years1948 to 1952 with about 10 known to remain, both restored and unrestored.
It's difficult to determine worth on such a rare vehicle, but to give interested bidders information that might be helpful on comparables, the dark blue example shown in the three photos in this listing is a well-known, beautifully restored, 1951 M-H Ranger that sold not too long ago for somewhere near its $250,000 asking price from a well-known and respected collector and racing car business here in California. Sorry, it's not included in this listing.
Ford and Marmon-Herrington had a lot of history working together before WWll and even more during WWll. Ford intended to continue this. In order to create the new 1948 to 1952 Ford M-H AWD/4WD Rangers, Ford sent new F-1 panel trucks to Marmon-Herrington to modify them. To do this, Marmon-Herrington installed their AWD/4WD drivetrain, cut openings for two windows on each side leaving enough material to neatly roll the sheet metal into the glass, installed two bench seats gotten from Ford's supply, and added a bit more finish to the interior. They were then sent to Ford dealerships for public purchase at a cost considerably higher than a standard panel truck.
The body of the M-H Ranger offered here is in very good, original, unrestored condition, straight, great form, and virtually no rust with just a few areas needing attention. Except for the easily replaced short front drive shaft, all of the Marmon-Herrington drive is there. The frame is solid with only surface rust. The panel truck body, fenders, hood, doors, etc. are in solid shape with great form, and only a few spots needing minor metal repair. The metal floors in front are also very solid with just two small areas needing partial replacing or simple repairing. Replacement panels are readily available for this. The rear wood floor is in good condition. This Ranger is very complete and missing just a few parts such as the side and door glass (readily available), exterior rear view mirrors (readily available), the front drive shaft (easily made by shops that do this), etc. The Marmon-Herrington components are virtually indestructible and, as the basis for M-H Rangers were Ford's F-1 panel trucks, most needed parts are easily found and interchangeable with standard Ford F-1 panel trucks and F-1 pickup trucks. Also, as can be seen in the photos, there are two Ford bench seats included in order to fabricate Ranger bench seats. I'm also including some parts not seen in the photos, such as the air cleaner, data plates, etc. It comes with it's correct 100 HP/239 cubic inch flathead V8 and 4 speed floor-shift manual transmission. I have not tried to start the engine so I'm unaware of the condition of the drivetrain. I'm including a recently rebuilt carburetor along with the original. This M-H Ranger is in very good original condition and ready for restoration as it has been kept under roof for many years. Please look closely at all of the photos and ask questions prior to bidding. A personal inspection is recommended.
The buyer is responsible for picking up this Vehicle at the sellers location and/or responsible for arranging and paying for shipping it. I will cooperate where I can with the logistics.
This Ford M-H Ranger is being sold with a clear and clean California title in my name, where is and as is with no warranty expressed or implied. The VIN on the chassis (top right front frame) matches the original VIN plate on the body firewall, both of which match the clear and clean California title in my name. It has current California registration and license plates. The vehicle must be picked within two weeks after purchase and will not be released without payment being made in full. Please have your purchase funds in hand prior to bidding. Although it may state otherwise elsewhere, a $500 non-refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately upon purchase. The balance in full is due within 7 days of the date of the purchase in the form of cash or bank wire transfer from a known and acceptable USA bank. Please ask all questions prior to purchase. This vehicle is for sale elsewhere and I reserve the right to close this listing early. Thanks for your interest and good luck bidding.
