Car description |
---|
I purchased this car from someone that owned the car for 41 years. It is a Dearborn car with a DSO89 -Transportation Services. It was ordered as a Special Purpose Vehicle and delivered to Ford Motor Company in Wixom, MI. It spent 10 months within Ford before it was sold to a retail customer in Minnesota in May of 1969. I believe that this is the most loaded Cobra Jet built in 1968. The car has been completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal. The rear quarter panels, taillight panel, floor pans, and torque boxes were replaced. The car was repainted with PPG paint. The Deluxe interior is completely original except for carpet. The motor has a CJ block (not correct date code), crankshaft, and rods. The heads, intake, and carb are all correct date coded pieces. It has a mild Competition Cams camshaft. The transmission is a 1969 CJ C6 with a custom built torque converter. The rear axle has the correct 68 dated coded no "N" nodular center section with 3.50 Traction Lock. 31 spline axles with correct sleeves at oil seals. Less than 300 miles on rebuild from local 9" Guru.
Original restoration was completed in 1998. Paint still looks great but has a couple chips. Goodyear Polyglass tires on correct chrome Rallye wheels. Overall, this is great car, but not a concourse, numbers matching car. It won Gold in the Occasionally Driven class at the MCA show in Colorado . The care drives straight and fast, and looks great standing still. It really needs nothing unless you want to return it to concourse. Making room for a new purchase, I will also be listing a springtime yellow 68.5 cobra jet as well.
Car has been featured in several books on Mustangs and muscle cars.
