Car description

  • First of all, Happy Holidays to you!! This car was featured in Mustang Monthly's "Barn Finds" in 2014 by Jerry Heasley. Google "Temecula Winery Mustang" for full article and pictures. Car is a complete true barn find and has great patina!! It runs and drives up and down the street. Please look at the 185 pictures below includingunderside below my rather lengthy description. Please take the time to read my full description if you are serious and look at all my pictures. I know it is long, but informative, for serious buyers. I myself want to know everything about what I am buying, so I don't do a 1 paragraph listing like many do. I write a small novel and take lots of pictures of every angle, including the underside, so you know exactly what you are getting with no surprises. My 100% positive feedback from those that have purchased from me over the last 11 years on eBay reflects this. If you still have questions after reading my listing, please don't hesitate to message me through eBay and I will promptly respond, or you can send me your phone # and I will call you and we can discuss this car from top to bottom. I also have a video of the car running that I can email you also.
  • Shipping this time of year is less than you would think and will range from $350 to $1200 typically anywhere in the lower 48 states. I have a shipping company that I have used for many years with no issues and am happy to get you a quote from my door to yours with them, you can arrange your own shipping, or you are welcome to come with a trailer and pick this car up yourself. Be realistic folks, although the car will run and drive down the street or up on your trailer, it had been sitting for 42 years before this, so please don't think you can drive this home. I needs to be restored. You can chosse how far you want to go with it. The beauty of this car is it is a blank canvas for you to do what you like with out fixing others' poor workmanship. Out of country buyers welcome too, but you will need to arrange your own shipping.

  • I bought this 1966 Mustang convertible in 2013 from the original owner's grandson. I had heard about it for years and assumed it was one of those exaggerated stories that didn't really exist that we all hear about. Well, in 2013, I went and saw the car in person and bought it on the spot even though one of the people that told me about it, said it was a K code Hi Po GT, which it was obviously not. I waited for a flatbed to pick it up before the grandson changed his mind. It was purchased new by his grandmother in Oklahoma who was a high school administrative secretary. She special ordered the car brand new in Antique Bronze with parchment interior and palomino carpet/dashpad, C code 289 2v, 3 speed manual transmission, accent group (which included a white accent pinstripe and deleted the quarter panel trim ), rocker panel moldings, AM radio, white power top (still works!), and full wheel covers. Was her daily driver for 59K miles. Been in CA since the summer of 1972. Had one very poor repaint in 1973 in "Earl Shieb" Blue as she got tired of the original gold color. Has been parked in a barn at a Temecula Winery since 1975 when she remarried and her husband bought her a new Cadillac convertible, She got frustrated when the cheap paint job she had done on the Mustang started flaking off and parked it in the barn on her husbands winery. I have the original OK title for the car. Car has never been apart and has tons of original paint markings throughout underneath, lots of original red oxide primer underneath, the original black out treatment on the pinch welds, original riveted ball joint upper and lower control arms, and much more!!

  • I put a carb on it and ran a fuel line to a gas can and started it in 2013 and engine ran fine. I have since rebuilt the original Autolite carburetor and had the original radiator re-cored, put new upper and lower radiator hoses on it, and the car starts right up and will run and drive enough to get it on your trailer. After running it for around 3 minutes the heater core leaks coolant under the dash, so it will need to be replaced or bypassed before driving any distance. I also replaced 2 of the tires that would not hold air, so the car is now roll-able, however I would not trust them for any type of distance due to age. I have not done any other work to the car due to several Shelby projects I have been working on that have been consuming all of my spare time. This car will be an easy restoration as all the hard to find parts are there and rust is limited to floor pans from water leaking into the barn when it rained heavily. Rockers, trunk, engine box, battery box, doors, fenders, etc are all solid. Door jambs and trunk jams solid. Original paint still in trunk. One quarter panel (driver's side) had a dent that was poorly filled with filler that can either be repaired or replaced. All original Carlite glass (except windshield) in great shape. Great to make a restomod out of, or to restore to original. Car has never been apart, engine and trans never apart and has "very good bones" as they say in the restoration industry. All original engine, trans, rear diff and door tags in place. Door tag matches fender apron stamp and both match title. All original wiring intact and not butchered. Original fuel pump (new one has been installed to run engine with) comes with the car and needs to be rebuilt. I also have the original Autolite distributor that comes with the car also. I put in a rebuilt unit to run the car. Original 59K cluster I used in another car that I needed it for a few years ago. I know it was the original mileage as the original owner told me it was and I believe her as car was only on the road for 9 years and all the original parts reflect that. I am including another tested cluster from another one of my 66 Mustangs that worked fine. This car is the perfect blank canvas to make the car of your dreams from an all original body panel, 1 family owned car with great history!! For not alot of investment, you can have a $50K+ car when you are finished for considerably less money than that i you do the car right. I am including new 1 piece floorpan assembly with seat riser, new driver's side full quarter panel, a new battery tray, and lower partial quarter for my $11,900 price. These parts were $1500+ with freight. These are the only parts metal wise that the car needs replaced as all the rest of the body panels are plenty workable. I would rather have a car such as this to restore that has never been apart, rather than one that has tons of hidden repairs from multiple previous restorations. There are too many people out there flipping these cars and cutting corners and just covering rust in bondo and painting then selling. Other than the 1973 lousy paint job (literally rubs off with your fingers) and the work on the rear quarter, not much other than maintenance was done on this car in its 9 years of being on the road in its early years before being parked in the barn in 1975.

  • The following extra parts I have for this car, but are not included for the $11,900 price are available to the buyer for extra. The reason I am not including them, is it is pointless to have a higher Buy It Now price for someone who plans to restore to original, so these parts will be individually priced to winning buyer and I will load into the car when it ships. The 13.2" front disc brake conversion with aluminum calipers and backing plates I will sell for $500 extra ( I believe I paid around $800 for it), the Coys custom 17x7" front and 18X8.5" rear forged 5 spoke wheels I had made for a 1966 Mustang fastback Shelby clone I built a few years ago, then sold and the buyer wanted different wheels put on, so I kept them for this car. They are custom offset to run on a 64.5-66 Mustang with a 235 tire up front and a 285 in the back with no rubbing. They looked great and I included a picture of the fastback in this listing for you to see how they looked on it. They were on the car for less than 2500 miles. Although they are in Foose boxes (that's what buyer of the Fastback wanted put on the Fastback ), they are made by Coys. I will take $800 extra for them (believe they were over $2K new + a 4 month wait if I remember correctly) The Tony Branda original mold Shelby steel and vacuum molded fiberglass hood is the only one I have ever used that fits really well and doesn't bow. It was $615 new + $200 freight. Will take $500 for it. The heated Flofit seats that I had redone in tan Connolly Italian leather with pony interior pattern and the original rear frames I had media blasted and powder-coated black and then also covered in tan Connolly leather. I have over $2800 in them and will put in another Mustang if not wanted for this car for an extra $2500. If these seats are not wanted for the $2500, I do not have an extra rear seat for this car, but still have the original fronts that will go with the car. Car is located in Palm Springs, CA and I will be happy to show to serious interested parties. Please no time wasters. I own an automotive shop and know these cars well and have done many show winning ground up restorations on Mustangs not near as solid starting points as this one over the years.

  • In my 20+ years in the automotive business, I have rarely seen, owned, or restored a nicer starting point 50+ year old vehicle. It is so untouched and will be such an easy restoration. I have owned over 1000 Mustangs, Shelby's, Big Block's, Boss's, Pantera's, Saleen's, Roush's, Cobra's. Lightning's etc, mostly collector models, and rarely see a vehicle (of ANY type) this untouched for so many years This is the perfect father son winter project, or something you can build to your specs and enjoy. If I didn't have so many darn projects and limited indoor space, I would keep this and build it myself as I have done many times over the years. I bought this car in 2015 to build and keep, not to sell. If I don't get my $11900, I will keep it and build it, no big deal. Take a look at the black Shelby tribute 1966 convertible listed on here now for $60K....body panels don't line up, poor stripes, pieced together and who knows what is hiding under the paint. I prefer to build them myself, so I know exactly what is done and done right. Seller of that car will probably get his $60K too. You're better off getting this car for $11,900, putting $25K into it, then have a car that is worth WAY more than the other ones out there if done well!!

  • Any questions, please message me and I will respondpromptly. This is a like to sell, not a must sell, or a desperation sale!! I price things fairly and on a Buy It Now, so there is no haggling back and forth or dealing with bidders that don't pay. In the past, I would do bid auctions which would end up getting bid higher than I may have wanted or expected, but sometimes end up getting people that were not serious that ended up not paying or following through, this is why I do Buy It Now auctions now. I have 30+ high end vehicles in my collection, so it is not the end of the world if this does not sell. Most are $100K+ in my collection. If I can make some extra space in my warehouses, great, if not, I will keep it as I know I will never find another like this one that I planned on making into a tribute of the 4 original 1966 Shelby convertibles built, but with a modern flare of better brakes, suspension, seats, steering, and 5 speed transmission with a fuel injected engine. I did a Buy It Now, so you don't have to bid an and wait, and hope to get it. I get people all the time that email me after they missed something I have listed to let me know if the deal falls through...they will buy....Outright price for my car with the new sheet metal parts is $11,900 if Buy It Now is used, and I know it will sell for this. Don't wait for someone else to use Buy It Now and miss it!! Also please don't compare this car to a coupe or a 6 cylinder convertible. This is an original V8 car, which will always have more value than any coupe and any born with 6 cylinder convertible. No taxes collected by me or any document fees like others charge. I am not a dealer and have owned this car since 2013. I did not buy it to re-sell. I choose to do Buy It Now, fixed price auctions over regular bid auctions because many people put on their watch list, then forget to bid at the last minute, then are upset that they missed it. Don't miss this one, you will never find another like it and don't go spending $50K + for a restored convertible that you have no idea of how it was built. Deposit of $500 must be made immediately thru Paypal upon the use of BUY IT NOW and remaining balance due with in 3 days of winning auction. Any questions and/or inspections if wanted must be made BEFORE using BUY IT NOW. Please do not use Buy It Now unless you already have the money. If you need a loan, please have it set up and approved first. You are welcome and encouraged to come and inspect the car or send someone to look at it before buying. I am not a dealer, so no sales tax will be collected by me. Car is sold as is with no warranty by me expressed or implied and no provisions will be made for anything deemed not accurate. I do my best to describe everything to the best of my ability. Shipping must be paid by the buyer from Palm Springs, CA 92262 when car arrives using a shipping company I arrange, you arrange, or you are welcome to come and pick the car up yourself in Palm Springs, CA. Car must be paid for in full with in 3 days, unless arrangements are made with me before using Buy It Now . I have clear Oklahoma title in hand. Car will not leave and title will not be sent until car is paid in full (and cleared) with either cash upon pick-up, direct deposit, loan check, or cashier's check/money order. Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer promptly. I have never had a person purchase a vehicle from me sight unseen that was not thrilled with their purchase!! I reserve the right to end this auction early as the Mustang is advertised on several other sites and publications, so if you want it, use BUY IT NOW before someone else buys it!! If you can not meet these simple requirements, please do not use Buy It Now and waste your time, mine, and others that are serious. If you need more time or have questions about payment, please feel free to message me with your phone # and we can discuss. Again, I have 30+ vehicles and none are a must sell, just trying to free up some space as I can barely walk in my warehouses they are so full. I am not interested in magazine coverage, picture collectors, or time wasters that just want to come and look at my collection. I am not losing any of my houses, or desperate in any way.

  • In summary (finally, if you are still reading :) ): This is a great restoration project and will be an easy one that you can be proud to do yourself or have done. There are toms of rusty messes out there that will easily cost you way more in the long run that this one will. Build the car of your dreams!! This car has a great story, and deserves to go to someone that will get it back on the road. Have a great day and thank you for looking and (hopefully) reading my long description..I just want to be thorough. Each time I think of something else, I revise the listing, add more pictures, and before I know it, it ends up this long!! Very few read what I end up writing, but if you have, thank you!! The first person that reads my entire listing, that has the means, is usually the buyer, so hopefully that is you. Feel free to contact me with any questions and Happy Holidays:)
