This is an Extremely Well Optioned Car! It was delivered new to Ford's Engineering Department as a very well equipped example. The 428 cars were quite rare and when you consider the scope of high end options, this car is very likely a 1 of 1 offering. What Ford needed at its engineering department with this car is a mystery. One cool thing this car is equipped with that youCould Notorder, is a set ofFactory Cast Iron Headers. Could Ford have been planning a 427 Medium Riser or a 428CJ Galaxie? We will never know, but its fun to think that this car could be a missing link.
The body on this Galaxie appears to be a solid example. The panels line up well and the gaps are nice. The Sunlit Gold paint looks like it was quite nice before being stored under a tarp that trapped moisture creating small bubbles over much of the car. The paint still shines nicely and she is a knock-out at 20 feet. Get closer and the bubbles become evident. The top is in good condition and appears to have been done when the car was painted about 7-10ish years ago.
The undercarriage is in good condition with only one visible repair on the passenger rear floor pan. The rest of the pans appear to be the originals and in good condition. The quarter panel drop offs are in good condition which is very rare in these cars. The frame too is solid and appears to be rust and damage free.
This Galaxie has the 500XL Package with factory bucket seats and center floor shift console. The interior is in good condition with a newer black carpet kit. The seats have nice upholstery that still fits well with nice, comfortable support. Adding to the comfort are a host of options including a rare Tilt Steering Column, Cruise Control, Power Windows, Power Driver's Seat, Power Door Locks, Air Conditioning, Rear Seat Speakers, Deluxe Seat Belts, Tinted Glass and more.
Under the hood lives a Q-Code 428 which is a very desirable option in these cars. We looked extensively for the factory VIN stamping and we could not find any stampings. The date code on the block casting is correct for the car. It still wears its original C8AE-H cylinder heads but has been fitted with the ultra rare 427 Cast Iron Headers as mentioned above. Obviously the engine benefits greatly from the extra breathing. The engine produces prodigious amounts of low end tire turning torque. It sounds great with a good low note to the exhaust.
Stopping and turning are done effortlessly thanks to the Power Steering and Power Front Disc Brakes. This is a heavy car but you would never know it by the effort needed to pilot it. This car is fitted with factory 15x7" wheels as well as a larger front sway bar and an added rear sway bar. These really help the handling of this car.
This car was stored for several years so there will need to be some units serviced for them to work properly. The air conditioning will need to be recharged and the vacumm door locks will need to be checked as they currently do not work properly. The cruise control appears to be complete but I have not tried to use it.
