Car description |
---|
This car was purchased by the original owner in the first year of production in 1964 and has been in storage until I purchased it in 2015.
The production date was May 12,1964. It was a special vehicle order with the "D" code, 221 hp, 289, 3-speed automatic transmission.
The Rally Pac gauges, power steering, and power brakes were also custom ordered. The 25,247 are correct on this completely rust free car.
The original unturned brake drums are present, indicating the low mileage. Professional restoration includes a new head-liner, carpet, door panels, and emblems.
The car had enough small parking lot dings to require a new paint job. It was painted the original color.
The seats had some cracks so they were professionally upholstered. It has a new master cylinder.
The internal seals and O-rings had dried up in the transmission, so it was removed and the original transmission rebuilt.
This Mustang has new white side-wall tires and combination original type hub caps with spinners
Some History on the 64 1/2 Mustangs
Of special interest to Mustang enthusiast, the 1964 1/2 D code engines were painted black with gold valve covers and air cleaner. The 289 engine was marketed as the "Gold Standard" of power.
On August 17, 1964 Ford's date code changed and several parts were no longer available. After this date, generators were replaced by alternators and the Eaton power steering pump was also replaced. Engines were now painted blue except the K code high performance version, which remained black. After this date, all mustangs were sold as 1965 models.
This is truly a special one-of-a-kind Pony with numbers matching!!! A vehicle that commemorates a unique era of our American heritage; a must have vehicle. This 64-1/2 was built at Dearborn, that makes it even more significant in the relative scheme of things, because it was born in the motherland.
You can getin this car and drive it from coast to coast. You won't find a cleaner, well kept 64 1/2 Mustang anywhere.
