BODYWORK/TRIM

Sporting a somewhat pontoon design and classic good looks, he father of Ford's legendary F-Series has always been a highly desirable line of trucks. And not surprisingly, earheads, ustomizers and 60 years' worth of fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding's greatest cultural icons. With the help of a frame-off restoration, onducted sometime in the not too distant past, his second generation pickup has been transformed into one smooth-driving cruiser. That rebuild began with shoring up the truck's steel and fiberglass fuselage. Once that solid profile was married to a fresh Oak bed, eep black base was dressed in mirror-like clear. And today, his classy hot rod is one sizzling classic that looks cool, erforms well and drives great!

Since we're talking aesthetics, 'll go ahead and point out the finer details of this Ford's notable reboot. Up front, painted grille hangs a familiar "V8" emblem and modern headlights above a minimalist bumper and chrome-trimmed parking lamps. Above that grille, domed hood floats cool ornamentation in front of smoked glass that's seated behind polished wipers and a power antenna. At the sides of that hood, monochromatic profile centers chrome door handles and stylized lock cylinders between classy mirrors and a polished, ow-mount fuel filler. And at the back of that profile, power-operated tonneau shades a red-lined tailgate, lue dot taillights and a second minimalist bumper.

ENGINE

'Keep it simple' is a good philosophy when it comes to performance and reliability. And the builders of this clean classic did exactly that by equipping the truck with Ford's storied 5.0 liter small block. At the top of the fully sorted mill, polished and finned air cleaner funnels oxygen in to a coated Edelbrock Magneti Marelli carburetor. That 4-barrel rides between a polished fuel filter, chrome Accel Super Stock coil and a burly Edelbrock Performer 289 intake. That intake pushes air and fossils through factory Ford heads that are capped with polished and ball-milled valve covers. At the front of those heads, n aftermarket points distributor fires pliable 7mm plug wires, hich snake around polished looms and coated Sanderson headers. At the base of that distributor, polished Powermaster alternator spins opposite a high quality Sanden AC compressor. And at the front of those ancillaries, corrugated hose drains a large aluminum radiator that's backed by a large electric puller fan. Aesthetically, he bright orange engine rides in a super clean bay that's finished to the same level as the truck's glossy, onochromatic exterior. And nice pieces like a polished breather, hrome dipsticks, olished brace bars and polished fluid reservoirs provide the perfect amount of visual punch!

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Every good hot rod has a solid foundation. Flip this Ford upside down and you'll find a roster of mechanical improvements that mix classic looks with modern mobility. At the center of the floors, smooth C6 3-speed spins likable, oad-ready gears. Beneath that drivetrain, thoroughly rebuilt suspension frames power rack-and-pinion steering in a modern Mustang II front-clip and KYB Excel-G shock absorbers. Power front disc and rear drum brakes are a welcome addition and big performance upgrade. There's an impressive dual exhaust system that employs throaty turbo mufflers. And everything rides on stylish Billet Specialties Vintecs, hich twist 245/35ZR20 Capitol Sport UHPs in front of 275/40ZR20 Capitol Sport UHPs.

INTERIOR

Inside the truck, custom cockpit is primed for either open road tripping or parking lot posing. Front and center, body-matched, illet-trimmed dash hangs slick digital telemetry beside Vintage Air climate control. Opposite that dash, plush bench seat looks wide enough to sit three. At the bottom of that seat, lean California Carpet anchors a low-profile console at the base of a trick billet shifter. At the edges of that carpet, leated side panels hang small pulls and polished handles in front of modern power windows. Above those panels, sculpted headliner frames a polished mirror, ustom cab trim and a manual dome lamp. And the driver stays connected to the road through a polished and tilting column that spins a sweet Billet Specialties Lecarra steering wheel.

It doesn't matter whether you're a Ford guy, oPar guy or Chevy guy, his classic F100 transcends barriers and claims universal appeal. The truck's great looks, reat performance and great color combo all add up to a great cruiser that can be driven and shown every day of the summer. Indulge as is, r tinker with it to make it sharper, ither way you'll have a timeless hot rod that enjoys excellent curb appeal!
