Car description

This 1963 Ford Galaxie is one of industrial-strength brawlers that pre-dates the muscle car era but delivers the same heavyweight punch. With a snarling 390, sinister black on black color combination, nd that NASCAR-inspired look, his was Ford's top piece of muscle in the days before the Mustang. "Total Performance" was Ford's motto in 1963, nd the Galaxie hardtop with its fastback roofline was designed to dominate NASCAR. The bodywork is handsome, et aggressive, nd when wrapped in beautiful black paint like this one, he effect is akin to the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove. And for 20-year-old paint, he finish is quite good. It shows a soft gloss that is period-perfect, nd a professional wet sand and buff would really wake it up and make it look amazing. Even from five feet away, his sucker looks great! The bodywork is quite straight, hich is critical on a black car; heck, here aren't even any parking lot dings in the doors or quarter panels. All the chrome and stainless trim, ncluding the bumpers and that intricate grille, s bright and shiny, ith no signs of rust or damage, nd the side trim makes the already huge Galaxie look a mile long. And there's no mistaking Ford performance in the early '60s, ecause the jet-inspired taillights give it a distinctive look that's one of the era's best. The interior is also nicely finished, ith fresh front seat covers, eadliner, isors and carpets. They're correct and accurate, nd given the condition of the rest of the car, hey don't seem particularly out of place in the least. They blend perfectly with the original parts that are still in place and you have to admit that seeing a 4-speed in a bench set Galaxie is pretty danged cool. There are a few sags here and there, ut for the most part it's beautifully preserved, nd further evidence of this car's clean life can be seen in the near-spotless door jambs, hich also appear to have been cleaned and waxed on a regular basis. An aftermarket tachometer has been strapped to the steering column and the dash pad was notched for clearance, ut a replacement pad is included in case you want to go back to stock. And as a full-sized car, here's a positively giant trunk out back which carries a correct mat set and a vintage spare tire assembly. This is a real Z-code 390 car, lthough the engine isn't the factory-issued piece. With a 4-barrel carburetor, t was just one step below the top-of-the-line 427, nd delivered formidable performance on the street. This one is upgraded with an .030 overbore, 428 Cobra Jet camshaft, nd a big Holley carb on a Ford aluminum intake. It remains a gentleman's engine, owever, ith a smooth idle and the ability to cruise effortlessly at high speeds without so much as a whisper. The engine bay is clean and tidy, ith nice chrome details, lot of new components, nd no signs of abuse or neglect. The 4-speed manual gearbox slams through the gears with authority and 3.50 gears in the 9-inch rear mean that someone was thinking when it was time to fill out the order form. A burly dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers gives it that '60s performance sound and it sits on vintage-looking Cragar mag wheels with 235/70/15 white-letter radials all around. With long-term ownership and a nice restoration, his is a fast, un piece of Ford muscle at a price that's all out of whack with how cool it is.
