Car description |

This car was built to replicate the awesome Mopars, which dominated drag strips in 1962.... When Chrysler unveiled these terrors in February 1962, many seasoned drag racers scoffed at the idea of a Super Stock Car with an Automatic Trans.....They were astonished when the Dodge Boys laid down 1/4 mile elapsed times quicker than the 4-speed 409 Chevys,421 Pontiacs and 406 Fords!!!
The secret was in the magnificent 3-Speed Torqueflite trans, which had a highstall speedconverter, allowing minimum wheelspin at maximum power, with the marginal traction available at the time. The Torqueflite would "lay rubber" at shift points, whereby the GM and Ford auto trans were referred to as" slushboxes", for their lazy soft shifts!!
Adding to the Mopar mystique was the pushbutton shift control...Watching these low 12 second cars on the starting line, with the driver gripping the steering wheel with his right hand and his left fingers on the "typewriter",was a sight to behold !!! GM and Ford guys were struggling with their 4-speed linkage and clutch, while the Mopar driver simply pushed 3 buttons with the tip ofhis finger !!! If you watch a drag racing video from the early '60's, notice how theMopar drivers are alwaysleaning forward to keep their finger on the pushbuttons, while the Ford and GM guys are leaning back, yanking on their 4-speeds!!
This car is a ROTISSERIE RESTORATION andwould be at home at anycar showevent or your local drag strip...It is magnificently restored top to bottom.
The engine looks identical to those 413 terrors in 1962, but displacement has been bumped to 572 cubic inches!!!. An aggressive cam and dual 4 barrel carbs atop the legendary Chrysler Cross Ram Intake, push horsepower well over 600, with enough torque to fry the tires on demand!!
The rear is the bullet-proof 8 3/4 with a stout 4:56 Gear.....It isn't a highway cruiser, but guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face when you plant your right foot !!
Transmission is the incomparable 727 Torqueflite
If you're looking for a legendary Mopar Drag car, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer or faster one ....NO DISAPPOINTMENTS!!!
I am NOT a dealer, but a serious Mopar collector....This car is titled, licensed and insured in my personal name here in Ft. Lauderdale,Fl.
