Car description

Up for auction is a genuine 1969 M-code Dodge Dart GTS. Factory B5 blue, lack interior, tripe-delete. This car is one of 640 NHRA homologation cars produced with a 440 engine for 1969 only, nd one of less than 40 M-code Darts currently known to exist. This car was purchased on May 20th, 969 at the Dick Landy Drag Racing Clinic at White Bear Dodge in St. Paul, N. From day one it was used as the factory intended - for the sole purpose of drag racing. I am just the second documented owner of this car, nd posses a clean Colorado title in my name. This Dart is 99% rust-free. Despite being a Minnesota car, t's never seen a snowflake. The odometer shows just 39,984 original miles. Sale includes extensive documentation, ncluding the original 1969 invoice, riginal 1969 registration card, riginal owners manual with owner's name and VIN, olor copies of the previous title in the original owner's name, he original fender tag, oads of time slips, ewsletter articles, race history, lass-champion plaques, tc. Those of you from the Upper Midwest active in the early '70's drag racing scene will remember this car well; its original owner is well-known and still building and racing some of the baddest Mopars in the country.

The car was recently awoken from a deep 30-year sleep, nd is still unrestored per se. However, ver the course of the last three years it has received a $40,000 rebuild/refresh with preservation and period-correctness in mind. A few liberties were taken with respect to driveability, ut not many.

The car presents itself very well, nd blows minds whenever shown - though cosmetically, he car remains unchanged with respect to the way it looked as it was last raced. The car still wears most of it's mid-70's paint, nd is a spectacular example of an original, s-raced M-code... chips, ents, ipples, arts and all.

Here are some details regarding what has been done to the car:

Engine: 100% fresh 1969 440 w/ dated HP block, 06 heads with hardened seats, anley valves, RW pistons, V oil pump. Mild Comp Cams hyd cam w/ adjustable pushrods. Original '69 intake, alve covers, ardware, tc. Original, eepened 893 pan. All machine work done right by Total Engine Service in Bloomington, N. Runs on pump 91. Original factory motor mounts (chromed in the 70's by original owner) with new isolators. This engine is correctly dated and numbered, ut is not the original motor to the car... please keep in mind that this car was competitively raced - The original block is long gone. Exhaust: New TTI chrome 2" x 3 1/2" headers. New complete TTI 2 1/2" system out the back. Sadly, do not posses the original exhaust manifolds. They went where they belonged in 1969 - the dumpster. Fuel System: New Carter street/strip pump, new fuel tank and sender. New stainless 3/8" fuel line, eat wrapped near headers. New reproduction fuel filter and carb line. Brand new Edelbrock 750cfm carb on motor, ebuilt dated/correct Carter AVS in trunk. New Mancini correct repop air cleaner, ie tin, reather, OS pcv valve, rommet, tc.. Electrical/Ignition: Mopar electronic distributor, ebuilt & locked-out. New Mopar chrome box. New mini starter. New battery, new positive cable. New Evans engine wiring harness. New MSD plug wires. New alternator, elays, egulators, esistor, tc.

Cooling: Correct, riginal-to-the car 065 radiator, eautifully rebuilt with correct bucket and new core - not pictured. New water pump, hermostat, ap, new fan clutch. New correct reproduction upper rad hose, orrect original lower, -blade fan, tc..

Transmission: Fresh 727 with 10" converter. All new driveshaft & slip yoke w/ solid 7290s. Brand new transmission lines. Correct speedo gear installed w/ new speedo cable. Factory-appearing kickdown linkage. New shifter bushings. Rear axle: All-fresh 8 3/4" rearend, ebuilt center w/ new 3:55s, 89 case, actory sure-grip, new green bearings, askets, ube, tc. Supension/Brakes: Brakes are 95% brand-new parts - new pads, hoes, ylinders, rums, LL lines, oses, eals, nd master cylinder. Converted to K-H front disks. Front rotors are not new, hey are factory rotors re-drilled for 5 on 4 1/2" pattern. New KYB shocks. New lower ball joints. Wheels/Tires: Brand new 6.40 x 15" Firestones on new ET 15x4" straight-spoke American copies up front, nd brand new G70-15 Goodyear Polyglas Redlines on custom-made 15x6" chrome reverse wheels out back. Interior: New Legendary seat covers front and rear. New ACC carpet. New trunk divider, ute, ackage tray, ear armrest bases. Everything else inside is 100% original and presentable - headliner, oor panels, teering wheel, onsole, ashboard... including class winner plaques on dash. Body / Appearance: The engine compartment was stripped to bare metal. Fender-well header holes were patched, ll incorrect holes filled, hen bodyworked and painted to match exterior. Another factory GTS hood located, odyworked and painted black; I still have the original hood but it has a "shaker" cutout in it as it was run in 1970. Complete firewall gasket kit installed. The wheelwells had been widened (not tubbed, ut stretched) by the original owner.. This work was undone - the wheel houses sliced and returned to stock width. The quarters are not perfectly straight as a result of this work and would need to be bodyworked to be perfect. But they are certainly authentic to the time. Wheel lips cut and rolled also.

Other: No heater; delete plates are riveted in place just like they were. Original exhaust tips are included but not installed. New trunk mat. New Year-One 440 hood callouts. New hood weatherstrip @ rear. Many spares, any extras; trim, ills, ardware, umper brackets, eat belts, riginal parts, tc.

This is a very special car, ith very special history. Is it perfect? Nope. But if you like old race cars, t is close.

Would it be better if it still had the original engine and exhaust manifolds? Mmmm, es. But if it still had this stuff, t would not have the race-winning history it does. And I'd still have the exhaust manifolds in the trunk.

In any event, think it would be very difficultto find a more complete, more original M-code Dart to enjoyor to restore. And certainly, t would be next-to-impossible to find an M-code with better documentation.
