Car description |
---|
DeTomaso introduced their mid-engined Pantera sports car in 1971 as a replacement to the Mangusta. Styling for the Pantera came courtesy of the young Tom Tjaarda at Ghia, and the crisp lines and long snout sat atop a pressed-steel unit chassis, while its off-the-shelf 310-hp, 351-ci “Cleveland” V8 was situated mid-ship and paired with a 5-speed ZF transaxle. Weight distribution was predictably biased toward the rear, 150 mph was not out of the question, and the car came with amenities like air conditioning, which American buyers demanded. The Panteras were sold in the United States through Lincoln Mercury dealerships. The 1973 Pantera won Road Test Magazine’s Import Car of the Year – beating out Italian rivals Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. A luxury model, the Pantera L (for Lusso), arrived for 1972 with unique bumpers, a finned panel over the fuel filler, and several other cosmetic upgrades.
The DeTomaso Pantera presented here is in excellent overall condition. This great car was produced on 5/1973 and built at Vignale Italy. The car originally came into the Newark New Jersey port of entry and was ordered from the St. Louis DSO )District Sales Office) It was originally sold by Jack King Lincoln Mercury in Omaha, NE and sold on 2/6/74. It is the original color combination of orange with black interior. Only 203 cars were painted orange in 1973 and only 1,258 Pantera cars were produced in 1973.
The previous owner was a collector and had this car since the early 1990s and purchased the car from another collector in Des Moines, Iowa. He drove the car sparingly since the early 1990s. He sold this Pantera in 2014 and the current has reluctantly decided to sell the car. Overall this is a very nice driver quality and mostly original car. The odometer has only 49,272 original miles since new. The car runs and drives excellent. It does not overheat and stays cool. More information and highlights on this car:
