Car description |
---|
1981 Delorean DMC-12.
First, the obvious, the car is red. The previous owner, who had the car since 1988 and purchased it with only 800 miles, stated that the car was a dealer-painted car sold new at Delorean Cadillac in Ohio, but I can confirm neither (so please save the emails about none being painted, only 3 being painted, etc) What I can say is that all signs of age and quality on the paint make me believe it probably was painted at that time (jams painted, color difference on bumpers, many people around town talking about remembering the car always being red since the 1980s, etc.)
Reportedly, this car was purchased new by a car dealer, never titled, and put in a private collection because the dealer thought the car would be a collectible because of its color. For whatever reason, in 1988 the dealer sold the Delorean to the family I purchased the car from, at which point the car had only 800 miles. The buyer then daily drove the car for a number of years, later made it into a weekend cruiser, and now the odometer shows 61k miles.
Everything on the car is original as far as I can tell, with the exception of new seat covers I installed and new window switches which now function great. The car has the desirable manual transmission and although it probably won't win many races, it does not feel underpowered. I have driven it a fair amount and have not noticed anything needing attention, the car starts, stops, and shifts great with the air blowing cold.
The car features all of its original manuals and warranty cards, it's original DMC car cover, and a box of shop manuals breaking down pretty much every piece of the car.
Paint presents well for its age, does have imperfections and a few scratches that would be expected of a car that has actually been driven and enjoyed but I see no evidence of any previous repairs or repaints.
For whatever reason, Autocheck isn't pulling the report on Ebay, but I do have an autocheck showing the car as no-accident and never titled until 1988, and one-owner thereafter.
Inspections welcome, please ask questions before you bid, and I do reserve the right to end this auction early for any reason. Payment in the form of wire transfer, cleared cashier's check, or cash upon pickup only. Buyer is responsible for shipping.
