Car description

This is a 1975 Datsun 280Z.It has a 1968 Chevrolet 327 engine with a Turbo 400 AT hooked up to it .So this is no Z for purists. The seller told me this has been off the road in storage since the late1990s.He said it was his daily driver and he just decided to park it in storage for awhile. That it was running and driving fine back then. well, 30 years later, I pulled it out of his storage in the California High Desert and brought it back here to Arizona. Checked the fluids, put a hot battery to it, cranked it and it sputtered to life. Kind of. The dual points in the Mallory distributor are old and need to be replaced. I ordered a Electronic ignition module to do away with the point problem. And it just showed up while I was taking pics of the car. So I just put it in the car and will let the new buyer deal with it. I had visions of keeping this car. So put some stuff in it . I had a fairly new aluminum radiator with fans that I put in. I replaced the water pump and put some new radial tires on a set of nice Enkei rims I had hanging around. Put a fairly new clutch and brake master cylinder in. Newer dash top and a set of nicer seats in. I have like 10 project cars I would like to get to sooner or later so will throw this one out there now. If it sells, fine. If not, better. This will be a great Z to work with. Really a very very nice rustfree body. Excellent floors, rockers, sheetmetal. . Drivers floor has a tear from running over something that creased the floor from the firewall back toward the drivers seat. Would not of been a ggod day for the guy if it was any higher and kept going past the seat he was sitting on. There is the slightest of rust at the passenger rear dogleg at the front of the rear wheel opening. I tried to show it in a picture. This car was originally bonze gold and is now red. Which has burned off and faded in many places. The V8 conversion was done well. Sits low, no cuts or beating of the firewall to fit it in there . Nice mounts using stock Z brackets.I believe he told me he got the mounts from Johns Jags That Run in Dallas. But I may be wrong there. While the tranny crossmember mount is homemade, it is a beast and will handle anything.Beautiful set of headers built well and fit in nicely with no cuts or metal bashing involved. Guess this car had a big block in it earlier with NOS. The guy took it out and put this 68 327 in there for more of a street car. No clue on miles or condition. Other than it idles nice, mostly, until it dogs out, sounds great and no smoke or noises Kind of have the hydraulics up so brakes work. Car shifts into gear but without having the new electronic ignition installed, have not driven it down the road. So this would be a builder. A project. Not a driver. You can not drive it home. In fact, you can not even drive it down the street now. But it will not take much to do so. V8 Zsare not for everyone. But a 68 Chevy small block 327 set up low and nice like this one, is a kick in the pants to drive. And really not much heavier than the stock 5 banger. This car is set up with performance springs, sway bars and will be a blast in both the straightaways and the corners. This will be a great starting point for someone to work with. Doubt there are many bodies still out there as nice as this one is...I travel around the West Coast with my truck and trailer and might be able to get it to you or close. And can arrange trucking to Long Beach California shippers for overseas buyers for $300. Clean straight title.
