1968 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport Convertible
Details:
The following items were rebuilt/refurbished/replaced in or around 2014. There are less than 2500 miles on these components:
Car Ownership History:
(Please note that the following statements contain my personal opinions. I am not an expert on classic cars, but I have been around this car for most of my life.)
Overview:
This car has been owned by my family since 1984. It was purchased used by my father from a coworker as a school car for his kids. I took possession of the car in 1998 and have owned it since then. The car has been garaged for the last 36 years. It was painted green in 1991. The paint is in decent condition, but there is one fairly large scrape on the left rear quarter panel behind the wheel opening (see pictures for more information). The top was replaced in 1989 and is in good condition. At the same time, the front seats were recovered and the carpet on the door panels were replaced.
Interior:
The interior is a bit of a mixed bag. The cowl tag indicates the car should have a Standard interior. I believe it has a Standard rear seat and rear panels. However, it has Deluxe door panels and what I have been told are first-gen Pontiac Firebird front seats. The carpet is in decent condition. I removed the center console (also from a first-gen Firebird) when the engine and transmission work was done. There are some gaps in the carpet that were once covered by the console.
Body:
The body is in good shape with no obvious rust. There is some corrosion on the driver-side floor pan. However, it doesn't seem to affect anything. The top is also in good shape. The rear window is fixed (doesn't zip out).
Drivetrain:
This car had a mid-60's 327 engine and TH400 transmission when we purchased it. I had this engine replaced and the transmission rebuilt in 2014. This was done by a professional mechanic. I don't have exact specs on the engine. I wanted something reliable and wasn't concerned with horsepower. I gave my mechanic freedom to build it as he saw fit. It has a Holley carburetor with electronic choke. It has decent power and excels cruising in the 40-60 mph range. It has a 3.08 rear suspension.
Brakes and Suspension:
In 2014 I replaced the front suspension with a Hotchkis kit. I also replaced the front drum brakes with a disc brake kit from Classic Performance Products. The rear single leaf suspension was replaced by a multi-leaf Hotchkis kit (with rear sway bar) and the rear drum brakes were rebuilt. The rear suspension upgrade completely changed this car for the better. The handling is much tighter than it was with the original components.
Tires/Wheels:
I replaced the wheels with new wheels from Classic Industries in 2014. At the same time I added215/70R14 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
Known Issues:
As with any 50 year old car that has not been completely restored, there are some things that don't work/missing/etc... Here is a list of known issues:
Reason for Selling:
After almost 35 years with this car, I simply think it is time to move on. I am hoping to find someone who can appreciate and enjoy this car as much as I have.

- Headlight covers are manual. These have never worked during our ownership of the car.
- Backup lights don't work.
- Interior courtesy lights don't work.
- Front seatbelt "female" halves are missing on both driver and passenger sides.
- Windshield washers don't work.
- Speedometer runs fast (actually travelling slower than speedometer indicates).
- Radio uninstalled. I still have it and will include with the car.
- Dash Pad cracked. I have a new dash pad and will include it (uninstalled) with the car.
Reason for Selling:
