Looking for a very original 1970 Camaro? One with rust free original body panels? No butchered up wiring? Not restored with a bunch of Chinese reproductions? This one even has the correct 14x7 SS Rally wheels, not the nice but overused Z28 wheels.
This 1970 RS/SS Camaro was built in Van Nuys(Los Angeles) on March 18, 1970 and has been in southern California its whole life.
Loaded up with lots of options!
RS
SS
F41 suspension(with rear sway bar)
Air Conditioning
Rear window defogger(rare!)
Custom Interior
Sport Mirrors
Gauge package
Factory door edge guards(intact)
Center console
Power steering
Unknown radio---I have JVC vintage AM FM Cassette that owner had. Dash uncut.
Color: code 67 Classic Copper
Interior: code 730 Sandlewood custom
The person I bought the vehicle from had it almost 20 years and bought it from the original owners family. It was kept indoor most of the time. It was repainted sometime in the 1980's and it shows. Looks good from 20 feet away driving by. The interior is all original except for a carpet replacement by the original owners. The interior will need seat covers, headliner, package tray, drivers armrest, and the rear ashtray piece for the console. Just the original radio is gone.
The guy I bought it from had the original engine and transmission rebuilt. All the engine components were original. He wanted to do some mild engine upgrades so he worked with the engine builder on the changes. Unfortunately the engine machine shop decked the original block when doing the upgrades, which he was unhappy about. I will list all the part numbers and dates to show you they are all correct. I took a closeup of the engine pad so you can see the swirl marks from the decking. All the original parts that were not reused are still with the car and come with it.
The changes: Weiand Intake, Hooker headers, Performance distributor and wires, open element air cleaner, upgraded camshaft with mild lope. There are about 5,000 miles on the engine and transmission after being rebuilt. Suspension good, brakes recent master cylinder, hoses, and calipers.
When the headers were put in, the collectors were integraded into the original exhaust pipes( you can see the factory crinkles in the exhaust bends. The muffler and tailpipes may be original also, its the crossflow muffler.
Body: all original sheet metal, bumpers, trim moldings, rs parts, taillights etc.
Rust: NONE on all body sheet metal
NONE on floorboards
Some on both outer corners of dash at pillar post(the dash metal)
Perforations in trunk floor where water came in through worn weatherstrip. Needs small patching.
Trunk: Has original trunk mat, spare tire and jack/lug wrench etc
Glass: all original including windshield, although windshield is cracked at bottom corner on passenger side.
Interior: all original unrestored except for carpet. All gauges working. Rear view mirror needs to be remounted.
Wheels: 14x7 rally wheels with 4 clip trim rings and 215/70/14 BFG Radial TA, about 50% tread
Air conditioning: Appears original and complete, compressor spins but belt is not on. It appears also that the heater core isn't connected.
Included original parts: Single snorkel thermostatic air cleaner and preheat pipe
Original intake manifold
Original TCS solenoid
Original distributor
Original exhaust manifolds, with French locks and bolts
Original Charcoal canister and mounting bracket(CA emissions only parts)
Original radiator ID metal tag
Metal lines for carburetor not being used(vac advance?)
Piece of original exhaust that was cut off for the headers.
Also: Vintage JVC Am-FM Cassette included. Radios are personal taste, the good thing is the dash bezel is uncut.
Here are the engine numbers I have written down. I have not removed a valve cover to check the cylinder heads....if needed I will do.
Engine Block: 3970014, Casting date C 3 1970 (March 3 1970)
Intake manifold: 3885577, Casting date B26, 1970 (Febraury 26, 1970)
Distributor, number 1111997, Date 9M15 (December 15, 1969)
Exhaust manifolds, one number is 3842628, Dates are C 3 70 and C 6 70, (MArch 3 and 6, 1970)
Carburetor: 7040502, Rare 1970 300HP with CA emissions, date 2265( unsure of date, maybe factory replacement?)
In summary, a great start to take the car to what level you would like to. Usable as is also!
The title is a California title in my name.
Thanks for looking!
Greg
Note: I am bleeding all 4 corners of the brakes and will revise photos after completion.
