Car description |

This 1966 Chevrolet Biscayne runs and drives wonderfully. The 250 6 cylinder starts right up, easily and on the first try whether warm or cold, idles well, revs well and pulls well. The 3-on-the-tree manual transmission and clutch operate just as they should, with no unusual sounds or difficulties. The brakes stop the car properly - the master cylinder has just been replaced and the rest of the system functions fine. It goes down the road excellently and handles well, even though the tires are old. Mechanically, the car appears sound, very original and very complete - right down to the original exhaust system. It is a blast to drive: smooth, quiet and responsive, with tons of character.
Cosmetically, the car could use some bringing around. The body is original with the exception of the hood, which appears to have come off of a Caprice - the hood has some rust in it. The only body damage appears to be the dent on the front passenger door and the slight crinkle in the passenger rear quarter panel (both pictured). Other than that, it is straight and essentially undamaged. The car was repainted at one time some decades ago, but, as you can see, the paint is shot. There are some areas of rust in the body, most notably on the lower sections of both front fenders, and at the base of the passenger side rear quarter panel. The floors have some very small perforations on both the drivers and passenger front floors, but are otherwise solid. The trunk floor shows just a very minimal amount of rust which will require attention. All in all, the body is significantly more solid and straight than most, and is quiet on the road. The driver's side rear door does not open, but all other windows, doors and locks work as they should, and the doors close right, easily and properly.
The interior could use complete restoration, headliner to carpet, but it is all there. The back seat has a cover on it which appears to have been on it since the beginning. The door panels are decent, the driver's panel shows wear, as pictured. The trunk mat, spare and jack are missing. The trunk lid is in great shape, but the hinge for the trunk lid is missing the torsion bars and possibly other parts - it works and locks, but does not stay open on its own.
The turn signal switch is broken, and so the turn signals and brake lights do not work. The car will require some other wiring work to be used as a daily driver: I'm not sure about the status of other lights, but do know that the headlight switch is not responding. Also, the windshield wipers are not working properly. The radio does not turn on. However, the heater fan and other electrics all seem to work just as they should. I'm not sure that the gas gauge is working correctly, but all other idiot lights and such seem just fine.
This is a very sweet and nearly complete Biscayne that is fully deserving of whatever restoration, restomod, hot rod or rat rod project you have in mind. It could easily function as a reliable and fun daily driver with only small investment and an afternoon or two of work.
