For sale: 1976 Chevy C10 low mile original true survivor. This truck was ordered new by the owner of the Texaco bulk warehouse and service station in St Regis, MT, in the company Crimson Red colors. It was used a few years for light delivery around town, primarily case oil products. The original owner was a decorated WWII veteran that served in Italy and North Africa. He passed away suddenly in 1981, and his wife used the truck sparingly as a backup vehicle until her death almost exactly 20 years later. She left the truck to her best friend and neighbor, who mostly stored the truck in her barn and put only maintenance miles on it for the next 19 years. A local dealer purchased the truck from her estate, and I bought it from them. I've spoken to the family of the original Texaco distributor owners, and the family of the second owner. The 34k original miles indicated is the correct mileage according to the family members. I don't have maintenance receipts or documentation to support that mileage, and older vehicles in Montana are mileage exempt. One look at the wear items on the truck confirms the low mileage. It still has the original windshield, Power Beam headlights, original hoses, belts, and other under hood items, and the original spiral shocks. Factory chalk marks under hood and on core support still visible. Original L78-15 Uniroyal glas-belt spare in factory carrier, and the original jack hardware under the hood. The Gem Top shell was dealer installed and has been on the truck since new - still has the Chevy dealer sticker on the rear gate. I added the 8" rally wheels with radial tires off another truck I had, the original wheels and hubcaps are included along with the 40 year-old bias ply tires that were on the truck when I bought it. 1976 Montana bicentennial license plates shown are included. This truck is tight and nice, runs and drives well, and is sorted. I'll do my best to describe this special truck below, PLEASE see the links to YouTube walk around video and Photobucket album with 135 detail close-up pics including the underside.
Exterior: Texaco signs shown in some pics are magnetic and easily removed. Mostly original paint with a couple of touch-ups, notably to the edge of the right front fender and left rear box corner, where dents were repaired. The second owner's family said those happened before they inherited the truck. Clean, straight truck overall with several dings as shown. Won't be noticed by casual observers, but would by car show nitpickers. If you watch the walk around video, I point those out. Dings on hood, roof, bottom of right front fender, and a few other areas. The hood and roof dings happened during storage in the second owner's barn. Truck presents well and draws a lot of compliments, red color really pops. The truck was driven on dirt roads, and there are many small paint chips as shown in pics and video, again these are not that noticeable and don't detract from overall appearance. Thanks to a life out west, truck was saved from salt. Only minor surface rust, a few very small pencil tip size blisters. Underside looks good. Inside of box is in good shape with some wear from delivering case oil - wheel wells and box floor not beat up, some minor surface rust where paint chipped on box floor as shown. Nothing is covered up or hidden with bed liner or heavy undercoat, what you see is what you get. Dealer I bought it from did have the truck detailed, including some painting under the hood and underside. Please see linked Photobucket album for 135 more pics. This truck is just an honest survivor that's ready to use as is.
Interior: All original in outstanding survivor condition. Seat is firm and truck is tight, no squeaks or rattles. Original seat, door panels, and floor mat very good with no damage. A couple of VERY small cracks on top edge of dashpad, not noticeable. Windows roll up and down and doors lock. Glass is original Safety Flo-Lite and in good condition. I think everything works, lights, wipers, heater, horn, radio, gauges, horn, etc. There was a resident pack rat living in the second owner's barn, and he did nibble on the outside windshield rubber in a few spots, and made a couple of teeth marks on the steering wheel. Thankfully though he nested elsewhere, and other than leaving behind some pine cones here and there, didn't trash the truck. No nasty smells. Everyone that's ridden in the truck has remarked how clean and nice it is. Ready for trips to the Home Depot or Cars N Coffee.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. Drives like a 34k mile truck should. Super tight truck with no squeaks or rattles. Original 350 pulls strong and smooth with no noticeable smoke, noises, or leaks. Shifts well and brakes work fine including parking brake. Normally in this section I have to list several items that either don't work or need attention, but that's not the case with this truck. Other than having 43 year-old original hoses and belts, and 10-year old tires, I can't think of anything. In addition to swapping out the tires and wheels, (originals included) I did have new exhaust put on, as the original system sounded a bit choked. With power steering and brakes, and plenty of get up and go, it's a fun driver that puts a smile on your face.
Pricing/Misc: This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. If you've been looking lately, you already know that Squarebody trucks are very hot. Hagerty and others have rated the 73-87 Chevy trucks as the number one future collectible truck, so prices will only be going up. This truck runs and drives, but flying in and driving it home isn't a great idea, as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive truck to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. Truck can stay here for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due.
