A LIFELONG CALIFORNIA/ ARIZONA CAR: BETWEEN THE LAST LONG TIME TWENTY PLUS YEAR OWNER AND MYSELF, WE'VE ACCUMULATED APPROXIMATELY $40K IN RESTORATION RECEIPTS! IN OTHER WORDS, THIS CLEAN CAR HAS JUST ABOUT HAD A FRAME ON RESTORATION WITH NO EXPENSE SPARED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL US WITH ANY QUESTIONS (760) 283-7098.
EXTERIOR
The body is straight with sharp lines and retains the factory polyurethane bumpers altogetherrepaintedin the factory Dark Claret Metallic (e.g. Maroon) Corvette color. The paint has a few to a handful of nicks which have been touched up over the years. The doors also open and close nicely.
The tinted glass keeps the car noticeablycooler and all of the weatherstrip is new: remaining soft to the touch. The glass t-tops (which are VERY nice for their age) actually have New Old Stock (NOS) GM weatherstrip. The front air dam has also received new rubber sweeps.
The headlight system has been completely restored with factory reproduction color coded vacuum lines, new headlight actuator cans and seals, and diverter valves: both headlights pop up and go down quickly (but could use some WD-40 on the pivot points.) All of the exterior lights work.
The new updated aluminizedexhaust system (doesn't rust) sounds great and looks beautiful! As you can also see in the pictures, the spare tire carrier is clean and has never had a jack put underneath it. In fact, the original spare tire still has its little nubs and appears to have never been on the ground!
INTERIOR
The original factory optioned doeskin leather interior has been almost completely restored with new Corvette America dash, new reproduction seat covers, new reproduction door panels and new custom molded reproduction carpet sporting a brand new set of Corvette cross flag Lloyd's floor mats.
Additionally, the speedo/ tach lens, the center gauge cluster bezel and the shifter console bezel are all new reproductions. All of the interior lights are functional and all of the gauges work save the clock which Corvettes are only optioned with so owners know what time their car left the factory. The power door locks and the power windows all work well. The parking brake is also functional.
We installed a wireless Bluetooth amp with all four new speakers to play music/ radio directly from mobile phone apps. And while complete: the cruise control is the only feature I don't believe is presently functional on the car.
MECHANICAL
The car has a received a new factory good wrench GM 305 cubic inch crate motor mated to the rebuilt factory transmission and this car is quick, don't forget it has a crate motor!(I think these cars were detuned from the factory/ HP ratings were re-calculated using different metrics for emission's standards compliance.) Regardless, the drive-trainis responsive, goes through all the gears well and will put you back in your seat! When a potential buyer came out for a test drive, he was similarlyimpressed with the car's get up and go.
There are less than 15k miles on the altogether new drive train which received too many new components to list including a new fan clutch, water pump, alternator, a/c compressor and all new power steering components including the power steering control valve, power steering ram, pump and four new hoses. The A/C system has been updated to R-134 and the compressor clicks over when switched on but it is probably die for a recharge.Additionally, the standard crate motor "Mr. Goodwrench" GM steel valve covers were on the car when purchased, so I picked up a set of factory finned aluminum high horse valve covers, had them polished and installed them because they look so cool!
When I took the car in for an emissions inspection, I added a Dr. Rebuild factory reproduction vacuum hose kit and paid for a high dollar show quality rebuilt of the carburetor (which included correct re-annodization.) You'll also note the new four-row aluminum radiator which keeps the car so cool I've only seen the temperature gauge go over 165 degrees twice.
Much detail has been paid to both the front and rear suspensions as you can see in the pictures. The front suspension was highly detailed with several custom painted components (partially covered by the newly installed inner fender suspension flaps) when all new a-arm and sway bushings were replaced together with all new ball joints, tie rod ends, springs and idler arm. When all four brake calipers were replaced with upgraded stainless steel sleeved units and pads: they were similarlytreated to custom red paint the same as the pictured suspension components. The rear suspension has also received new strut rod bushings, new spring and spring bushings as well. Lots of pride of craftsmanship has been taken making this car beautiful top to bottom.
You'll also notice the brand new tires mounted to the factory original slotted aluminum wheels professionally polished and restored with repainted "windows" (e.g. slots.) I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywheresave the fact that I have worked so hard keeping it clean!
There is a YouTube video of this Corvette beneath the pictures and at the bottom of this page showing the speedo/tach/gauges over a 15 minute trip up and down the highway so that you can see how quick the car is but fair warning: the color and sound are not entirely exact/ accurate. If you fast forward to approximately minute "14" you can see the walk of the car we did at the park. Please enjoy the below pictures and details about this classic 1980 Corvette!
