Car description |
---|
This is a rolling, driving project car. I have owned it since 2002, but haven't driven it much in the last 10+ years as I had planned to do a restoration. Too many projects are forcing this one out. I also have accumulated a ton of parts to convert this to a 396/4 speed SS clone car. Those parts will be sold separately. The condition is as follows:
Drivetrain: A good running 327 with a stock rebuild that was done prior to my purchasing the car. It was done by a shop that warrantied the rebuild, but of course that was almost two decades ago. I have serviced it regularly with regard to oil and filter, but it has not been driven for several years. It starts easily and idles very nicely with no smoke out of either exhaust pipe. It has a Rochester 4 barrel and Edelbrock Performer manifold with an HEI ignition and Super Coil. The transmission is a TH400. The rear end is a 12 bolt GM posi with a 3:73 gear. The exhaust system is duals off stock manifolds and it sounds nice. The air cleaner was removed for pictures only. I don't run vehicles without one.
Body and paint: The car did not have a great paint job when I bought it. The clear coat is flaking off. There is rust behind the rear wheels, around the trunk rim and on the deck below the rear window (I put POR15 the area behind the rear window to stop the surface rust as it still has good metal below it). It had foil insulation in the hood when I bought it. I removed it because it caused rust inside the hood due to trapped condensation. The top surface of the hood looks good, but I had planned to put an SS hood on it anyway. There are a few bubbles in the paint, but aside from the panel behind the window, nothing looks that bad. The light spots are where the clear coat has flaked off. I did not put wax on it as it will make it harder to paint and cover up the condition. The windows are all good. The car is straight.
Interior: The interior needs a make-over, but is complete and usable. It has bench seats/black interior. I will include a better speedometer lens and may have time to install it prior to auction end. The carpet needs replaced. The radio does not work and is not the original. The dome light needs a new dome light. The floors feel solid, but I have not pulled the interior to look closely.
Electrical: It has an Optima battery and is all original. The battery stays charged. I do top it off every few weeks to keep the battery fresh.
To give you a better idea of what this car needs, in my opinion: Brake service and check before driving. I was planning to replace the hood with an SS hood, a patch panel between the rear window and trunk, a patch panel around the trunk seal area, patch panels behind the rear wheels and the panel between the tail lights. The bumpers are usable, but will need new bumpers front and back. The rear is tweaked and the front has some surface rust. The frame looks straight when viewed from underneath (pictures included). Some POR15 and some time would make the bottom look great.
If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them. I want this car to go to someone who will give it the love it needs. I'd rather sell it cheap with both of us happy, then make a few bucks more and have you feel like I wasn't up front. Happy bidding!
