Car description |
---|
This Suburban lived in southern California until I bought it and drove it to Texas this year. It passed a California smog inspection in September of 2016. It has a good catalytic converter. The guy at the dealership said it has edelbrock headers, but they look pretty stock to me. So, I'm not sure on that one. It definitely has some exhaust upgrades. It sounds nice.

Last of the square bodies. 1991 3/4 ton suburban -V2500 - 4x4 front manual lockers. This is the first suburban to have the 4L80E. You get the square body with a better transmission that can run you down the highway at lower RPM.
Yes - it is a 4L80E. I don't care what some guy on a forum or your cousin Merle says. The 4L80E is a heavier duty electronic transmission with overdrive. Most of the square bodies have the 700r4. This one is better. Also makes an ls swap easier from what I hear. Translation - you get the 90s generation transmission and could swap an ls performance engine without having to change the transmission. The 3/4 ton or 8 lug 1991 suburban is pretty hard to find. Go ahead - look around. Ebay, autotrader, national craigslist search. There just aren't very many of these on the road.
The transmission was overhauled by Aamco at 194,556 miles. Documentation available.
A crate engine was dropped in at 183,893. Documentation available.
Before driving it home to Texas, I took it to a dealership and had the oil changed, the radiator flushed, the transmission fluid flushed, and the transmission filter replaced. Documentation available.
It has cooper all terrain tires with about 85% tread left. They are pretty new. 285/75/16. Didn't save the receipts on this one, but you can look at them and see that they are in good shape.
The guy who owned this before me, put in an led light bar and bumper bar.
Aftermarket radio with upgraded speakers (six not including the woofers) all the way around including placing them in the kicker panels in the front of the cab.
Two ten inch (10") kicker subwoofers in the back. If you aren't into that, just pull it out and sell them to some teenagers.
He also put LED lights in the dash, under the dash, and in the dome lights.
Dash pad cover looks good.
The good:
Very little rust. Underbody has none as far as I can see.
Engine has a little under 30,000 miles on it.
Transmission has a little under 20,000 miles on it.
The body is straight. There are some dings. It is 26 years old.
Tailgate power window works.
Third row seat.
Nothing is missing.
Some amount of lift. My guess is 2-4 inches. It's not crazy high, but I have to hop to get my butt into the seat. I'm 6'1".
The a/c works great. It has already been converted to 134a. Front and back air conditioning work great. Blows cold even when sitting in traffic. Just spent about 1.5 hours in stop and go traffic coming back from the beach. It blew cold the whole time.
Upgraded Aluminum radiator
Dual auxiliary fans with in cabin switch
The not so good:
211,xxx miles. Lots of updates though.
There is a little bit of rust in the driver side door jams. Nothing crazy, but it needs to be addressed.
The paint on the roof is flaking off. It could use a new paint job. If I don't get what I want for it, I will keep it and probably bed liner the whole suburban with white raptor liner. It would look good with a new GM white paint job.
If I were going to keep this car forever, I would do three things to it. 1) Address the rust in driver side door jams. 2) Repaint or use white bed liner the whole suburban. 3) Replace the window rubber and seals. They are in rough shape.
Why am I selling it? This is an extra suburban. I have another squarebody that is a 3/4 ton with a factory manual transmission and a 383. It's more fun to drive. If I had the garage or covered driveway space, I would be inclined to keep it.
Local pickup - If you fly into Houston, I can pick you up.
