Wonderful 1951 Chevrolet 3600 3/4 ton truck. Lots of Southwestern charm.I am told the truck has lived its entire life in New Mexico, and from the condition of the body, frame and interior I would say this has to be true. The cab does have some spots where the paint is missing and surface rust has formed. The cab corners are good. Rockers are solid, Floors are solid, Running boards are solid. No body filler that I can find anyplace.Paint seems to be an old repaint of the original GM Fathom green. Its oxidized, peeling and cracked. You could repaint her, Or just make a nice patina finish out of it.
I spent part of the weekend cleaning through the grease on the engine. Its in amazingly original condition.
The truck starts on the first attempt without choke, No smoke, No leaks. I was told the engine is a 234, But I have a feeling its the original 216. (I will update the listing as I explore this)4 speed on the floor shifts smoothly. Brakes work by 1951 standards. Headlights, horn and brakes lights work. Some of the wiring is original cloth covered, Other areas have been rigged. I would suggest a wiring harness down the road.Heater (REO) turns but I'm not sure if it heats.Original owners manual in glove box.
Aftermarket turn signals are not working. Brand new aftermarket "Conventional" non-split rim wheels with Firestone LT215/85 R16 radials included with truck. The set of new rims and tires set me back $1000.00, So I have this figured into my reserve price.I also have the original Chevy split rims that are still mounted on the truck included.
Passenger side glass is cracked and needs to be replaced (Less than $100.00).All windows roll up and down. Windshield has one small rock chip on lower passenger side.I have the original wooden stake frame with factory GM hardware for the bed.It looks pretty cool, But its very weathered and warn from the NM climate. It would make a great template for some nice carpentry work or enjoy the history.
I haven't had the truck for long, I love it. Its fun to drive and looks good in the driveway, But I feel it may be a better project for someone else.I organically purchased it to have a little project and haul garden supplies, But I think it deserves to be restored and enjoyed by a true collector.I just drove it up Sadillo Hill on Old Route 66 the other day doing 60 mph with no issues. Its not really a daily driver, But I guess that depends on what you are used to.
I haven't registered the truck yet, But I do have a clean New Mexico Title.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I haven't had the truck long, But I will do my best to answer any questions you have.
The truck is available for local pickup, But I will be glad to help load it on a transporter.Transport is at your cost.
NADA Classic car values says this:Low Retail $6100.00Average Retail $14,500.00High Retail $29,400.00
