The 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline Aero Sedan
Hello, My name is Al Rivera, and I am a licensed broker. This car came from a small collection of cars and I have been hired to sell this vehicle for the owner of the collection. The car that we are presenting in this auction is a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline Aero Sedan. The pictures listed have been taken with my digital camera. None of the pictures have been manipulated, or photo shopped. The pictures show a car that has survived over sixty years, and still looks great. It comes in two tone brown and cream paint, popular of the era. The collector came as close as possible to match the tan striped cloth interior that originally came with the car.
This car is a restoration of sorts. It is not a "frame off," "ground up." or what they call a "rotisserie" restoration. It's more making the car as close to original as possible, but making small changes to what the owner wanted in his car. All the chrome has been redone, and in some places replaced. It has a good set of Denman Wide White Wall tires. It has 4 wheel hydraulic brakes and in good working order. The front suspension has been replaced where needed. Dyna-mat sound proofing has been installed in almost every part of the car, to make sure this car is quiet! Yes it is very quiet. The front and rear knee action shocks have been refilled and are in good working order. Another fine accessory are those wing tip bumper guards and the rear pull bumper guard. The rear has been lowered. Both rear leaf springs have been calibrated. It also comes with a custom dual exhausts, which have been flared for cruising. I would say that this car was made for the cruiser, who loves to drive a fun original car.
A sun-visor has been installed over the front windshield, which was considered an accessory and very popular back then and even today.. The electrical system has been changed to a twelve volt system, however, the gauges have remained 6 volt and sometimes the voltage kick down does not always work. The interior dashboard comes with the original dials and gauges. A large electric fan has been installed in front of the radiator to make sure the engine stays running cool, the fan can be controlled manually by a toggle switch located under the left side of the dash. The temperature gauge, clock and the gas gauge are not working at this time. It does come with a new modern radio that is located inside the glove box and speakers are located under the rear back seat bottom cushion. The body and engine are not matching numbers. This has the 235 cc engine that came out in 1950 as an option. The engine has been rebuilt, with a new head and has about a 1,000 miles on it. Most of the time it has been garaged or flat bedded to shows, where it has picked up a few trophies. The same goes for the 3 speed column shift Chevy transmission. The collector did his best in keeping it stock, but added a few things to make the car his own. It comes with a passing lane outside review mirror, that is extremely rare and is fastened to the driver door. Windshield wipers have been removed, since the car is never driven in inclement weather. This car has been in Sunny Southern California and has been rebuilt here in Sunny Southern California, and we have all the maintenance, repairs and replacement receipts and pictures in a folder that comes with the car when purchased.
Put the emergency brake on, push in the clutch pedal, tap the gas pedal twice and then push the pedal to the right of the gas pedal, and that engages the starter, and the engine just starts right up! and you are on your way. The headlights and tail lights come on. The front turn signals and fog or (Trippe) lights are installed but not wired at this time for use. The 1948 Chevy Fleetline Aero Sedan has plenty of power and can get up and go, with no hesitation. When you take a drive, people can't help but stop, look and smile. Maybe this is the collector car that you have always been looking for, take a look for yourself. If you have any questions, need additional pictures, or you would like to place an offer, feel free to contact me, anytime, 213-400-6066. Good wishes, and Happy Holidays!
So What was Chevrolet doing in 1948
Chevrolet introduced their Fleetline body styles, halfway during the year of 1941. The Aero Sedan became the two door and the Sport Master became the 4 door, of the Fleetline models. It rode on a 116 inch wheel base and powered by a 216.5 cu inch in line six cylinder engine. They Aero Sedan cost $880 to purchase while the Sport Master cost $920. They produced 61,000 of the two door Aero Sedan and only produced 14,530 of the Sport Masters.
People were asking for new cars after World War II. Chevrolet was able to scramble and produce a car that was different. They built a fun fast back two door sedan, which has a striking resemblance to the Buick Super. The two door Aero Sedan even resembled the upscale Cadillacs up until 1949. Other Marks followed suit. Pontiac, and Oldsmobile joined Cadillac, Chevy and Buick in coming out with their fast backs. By 1950, for an extra $159 you could have the option of installing the new 235 cu in, 105 hp in line six cylinder engine from the Chevy Truck, which was modified with hydraulic lifters and larger intake valves for car duty. In 1951 the four door Fleetline was dropped, and then in 1952, the two door Fleetline Aero Sedan was dropped from the line altogether and the two door became re badged as the De Luxe Model.
